Superhero films are frequently box office smash hits.

The high budget, high action films, largely based on comic books from companies like Marvel and DC Comics, regularly break ticket sales records, and are enjoyed by audiences all across the world.

Along the way, there have been plenty of almost-was superhero films, from highly anticipated sequels to unexpected takes on the genre from different directors. For various reasons, be it finances or creative differences, they never ended up coming to light.

Channing Tatum Hasn't Watched a Marvel Movie Since 'Gambit' Was Scrapped, Would Still Play the 'X-Men' Role Today

Channing Tatum is revealing that he’s still so upset about what went down with Gambit.

If you don’t know, Channing developed a movie about the X-Men character and was supposed to star in it. Originally, the film was supposed to be released in 2016. Multiple delays and problems kept occurring, and years later, the film was finally scrapped.

'Deadpool 2' Release Date Moved, 'Gambit' & 'New Mutants' Also Get New Premiere Dates

Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool 2 has a brand new release date!

The film originally was set to be released on June 1, 2019, but will now be released on May 18, 2018, THR reports. The film will be going up against the Han Solo Stars Wars movie in its second weekend at the box office.

Other X-Men universe films were also given new release dates. New Mutants, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton, is moving from April 13 to February 22, 2019.

In addition, Channing Tatum‘s Gambit, which just lost its director, will now be moved from February 14, 2019 to June 7, 2019.

Channing Tatum's X-Men Spinoff 'Gambit' Loses Another Director

Channing Tatum‘s Gambit has just lost its third director since 2015.

Gore Verbinski signed on for the film in October, but THR has revealed that Gore left the production. Other directors to leave the production include Rupert Wyatt in October 2015 and Doug Liman in August 2016.

Fox had set a February 2019 release date for the X-Men spinoff movie about the mutant known for his ability to alter kinetic energy and throw cards.

Josh Zetumer has written the script for the movie. No word if the release date will be changed due to the lack of a director at this time.

Lizzy Caplan Joins 'Gambit' as Female Lead Opposite Channing Tatum

Lizzy Caplan is in talks to join the upcoming X-Men spinoff movie Gambit as the female lead!

It’s not yet known who Lizzy will play in the film, if the deal is pulled together, but she will star opposite Channing Tatum as the title character, according to Variety.

Gambit has the ability to charge matter with bio-kinetic energy and he uses playing cards and his long metal staff as his weapons.

The last time Gambit appeared on the big screen was in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He was played by Taylor Kitsch.

Lea Seydoux Offered 'Gambit' Lead Role Opposite Channing Tatum

French actress Lea Seydoux has reportedly gotten an offer to play the leading role in the X-Men spinoff Gambit, opposite Channing Tatum!

The 30-year-old actress will play the role of Belladonna Boudreaux aka Bella. Mission Impossible‘s Rebecca Ferguson and Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee were also reportedly in the running for the hotly contested part, Deadline reports.

Gambit is set to be released on October 7, 2016. No plot details are known as of right now.

Channing Tatum Finalizes 'Gambit' Deal Despite Exit Reports

Channing Tatum has closed his deal to star in the upcoming movie Gambit, according to THR.

It was reported a few days ago that the 35-year-old actor’s deal for the superhero flick was falling through because his team couldn’t reach an agreement with the studio, 20th Century Fox.

THR‘s sources say that there were some rough patches in the negotiations, but Channing‘s “participation hardly was in any real danger because the actor already had invested quite a bit in the superhero part.”

Channing has been attached to the project for some time now and he is also a producer on the film. It currently has a release date of October 7, 2016.
