Val Kilmer Reveals How His Throat Cancer Battle Changed Him

Val Kilmer is opening up about life after his battle with throat cancer.

The 57-year-old actor was joined by his daughter Mercedes, 26, and son Jack, 22, as he revealed how the two-year battle changed him.

“I was too serious. I’d get upset when things like Oscars and recognition failed to come my way,” Val told THR of his life prior to his diagnosis.

He added, “I would like to have more Oscars than anybody. Meryl Streep must feel pretty good, you know? It must feel nice to know that everyone loves her. It’s about being loved.”

Val also added that his faith has helped him through his cancer battle, which has involved chemotherapy and a procedure on his trachea.

Val Kilmer Reveals He Battled Cancer: 'I Did Have a Healing of Cancer'

Val Kilmer did a Reddit AMA this weekend where a fan asked about the rumors concerning his health and an incident where Michael Douglas said Val had cancer.

“A while ago, Michael Douglas claimed you had terminal cancer. What was the story behind that?,” a fan asked. Val responded, “He was probably trying to help me cause press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer, but my tongue is still swollen altho healing all the time. Because I don’t sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather.”

Val battled cancer and health rumors for years. We’re glad to hear he is doing well!

Val Kilmer Reacts to Cate Blanchett Tweets: 'I Wrote Nice Things...And Now I'm a Pervert'

Val Kilmer made headlines this week when he couldn’t stop tweeting about his pal and former co-star Cate Blanchett.

At an event this week, Val was surprised by the attention he received from the story. During a Q&A of a screening of Citizen Twain, his one-man play, he was asked about his favorite co-star.

“I can’t say Cate Blanchett,” he joked (via People). “I wrote nice things about Cate Blanchett on Twitter and now I’m a pervert.”

“I don’t know why loving an actor that’s so talented is creepy, but I guess I’m creepy….It makes no sense. I didn’t say anything weird,” Val continued.

“I write about all my friends,” Val continued. “There’s no story. Nothing weird.”

Val Kilmer Can't Stop Tweeting About Cate Blanchett

Val Kilmer seems to really love Cate Blanchett and he has been expressing his admiration for her on Twitter for several days!

The 57-year-old actor worked with Cate on the 2003 movie The Missing and he clearly still harbors a lot of love for his former co-star.

“Once I flew all the way to Australia just to talk to Cate Blanchett. Her husband [Andrew Upton] met me first. Or, instead, I guess, to be accurate,” Val tweeted along with a selfie of himself. In a tweet that appears to have been deleted, he added, “And recently I’ve had 2 dreams with #CateBlanchett in them. Her husband wasn’t in either of them.”

While visiting the World Trade Center in New York City the next day, Val continued to tweet about Cate.

“She’s just as amazing in person. Some super stars aren’t-Some superstars don’t do a thing to ya in person- Cate is so real it’s almost unreal,” he wrote.

Val Kilmer Reveals Michael Douglas Apologized for Saying He Had Cancer

Val Kilmer reveals that Michael Douglas reached out after telling the world that Val had cancer and wasn’t doing well.

Meanwhile, Val, 56, dismissed Michael‘s remarks days later and said Michael had been misinformed.

Michael Douglas wrote me a nice note apologizing for suggesting to the press overseas, I ‘wasn’t doing too well…’ and was grateful to hear I am doing well. He’s a classy guy,” Val updated in a new post.

VIDEO: Val Kilmer Has Trouble Speaking, Says 'My Tongue Swelled'

Val Kilmer made a rare appearance at an event this week and had trouble speaking to the crowd following reports he was battling cancer.

The 56-year-old actor previously denied the reports and said at the event that his tongue had swelled, which caused him to cancel a tour of his play Citizen Twain.

Val presented a film version of the play on Thursday (November 10) in Los Angeles.

“I went into rehearsals down in Florida and started having trouble with my speech,” Val told the crowd (via People). “Obviously I’m still recovering. My tongue swelled up and I canceled the tour. As I’m recovering I’m showing this.”
