Freida Pinto: Maiyet Varanasi Silk Capsule Collection Dinner

Freida Pinto is a beauty in blue while attending Barneys’ Private Dinner to celebrate the launch of the Maiyet Varanasi Silk Capsule Collection on Thursday (May 9) at the Consulate General of India in New York City.

The 28-year-old actress hosted the dinner to celebrate the Nest Varanasi Silk Weaving Facility, which brought together Muslim and Hindu weavers to enhance their comfort and productivity, and preserve centuries-old tradition of hand-loomed silk.

Varanasi, India is the oldest living city on earth and is the home to a 500 year-old hand-woven silk tradition that is currently under threat from mass power loom production, with tens of thousands of artisans out of work. Nest is working with weavers to rethink, redesign, and redefine their craft production in a way that is both ground-breaking and sustainable.
