Phillip Phillips Sued by 'American Idol' Producers for $6 Million

Phillip Phillips is being sued for $6 million by one of the producers of American Idol for breach of contract.

The 25-year-old singer, who won the eleventh season of the singing competition series, tried to get out of his contract with management company 19 Entertainment back in January 2015.

Phillip alleged that 19 manipulated him into accepting jobs. Now, 19 claims that the singer is holding onto $1 million of the company’s money and that he should also have to pay “at least $5 million for repudiating and breaching various agreements,” according to THR.

Phillips has refused and insists that he will continue to refuse to perform pursuant to the Agreements, thereby causing Plaintiffs additional damages,” the complaint states. “The amount of the additional damages from these continuing breaches is not presently calculable with precision but will be presented at the time of trial and will exceed $5,000,000.”

Here is how Phillip‘s lawyer responded: “19′s new complaint is a blatant attempt to evade California’s jurisdiction and thwart its fundamental public policies crafted to protect artists. 19 cannot murder its parents, then seek mercy as an orphan.”
