Michael J. Fox Finds Living with Parkinson's Disease 'Hilarious'

Michael J. Fox is opening up about is 26 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease and how he hasn’t let it affect his sense of humor.

The 55-year-old actor – who is best known for his roles in the classic Back to the Future franchise as well as The Good Wife – chatted with AARP Magazine where he said he’s tries to find the funny in living with the disease that causes extreme shaking.

“The truth is that on most days, there comes a point where I literally can’t stop laughing at my own symptoms,” Michael said. “The thing that makes it hilarious to me is when I think of someone else watching all this and thinking, ‘Poor Michael can’t even get the coffee – it’s so sad!”

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease back in 1991 – when he was only 29-years-old – but did not go public with struggle until 1998.

Since being diagnosed, Michael has not let it slow him down. He has managed to maintain a successful career in Hollywood, thanks to the support and help of his wife of 29 years Tracy Pollan along with their four children as well as not letting his disease effect his sense of humor.

“You deal with the condition, and you deal with people’s perception of the condition,” Michael said. “It was easy for me to tune in to the way other people were looking into my eyes and seeing their own fear reflected back. I’d assure them that ‘I’m doing great’ – because I was. After a while, the disconnect between the way I felt and the dread people were projecting just seemed, you know, funny.”
