Barbra Streisand Clarifies That She Felt Miscast in 'Hello, Dolly'

Barbra Streisand is speaking out to clarify a quote that was attributed to her in which she supposedly said she felt miscast in the movie Funny Girl.

The legendary entertainer and Oscar winner really was talking about her role in the 1969 movie Hello, Dolly!

Barbra felt the role should have been played by an older woman. She was just 27 when the movie was released. In comparison, Bette Midler just played the role on Broadway at the age of 71 and Bernadette Peters, who turns 70 this week, just replaced her in the production.

“TRUTH ALERT – Variety ARTICLE (PRINT COPY). For those of you who saw the print edition of @Variety, there was a mistake in the transcript,” Barbra wrote on Instagram. “I was talking about Hello, Dolly! – not Funny Girl – when I said I was miscast. I will forever love Funny Girl, and am grateful that I got the chance to play Fanny Brice.”

Barbra won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in 1968′s Funny Girl.
