How Much Did the MTV VMAs Boost the Performer's Song Sales? Figures Revealed!

The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards boosted sales for the performers that hit the stage – and now, the numbers are in!

This year’s awards show, which aired on August 26, resulted in gains in both digital downloads and streams according to Billboard on Wednesday (September 4).

The show resulted in a “74% boost in sales for the tracking week of Aug. 23-29, according to Nielsen Music,” Billboard reported.

The songs performed on the show, not included newly released tracks, sold a total of 93,000 downloads for the week and earned 99.6 million on-demand streams, which was an increase of 17%.

The song that gained the largest sales was Missy Elliott‘s “Pass That Dutch,” which moved 1,000 downloads for a 1,185% increase, and was streamed 391,000 times for a boost of 124%.

The other six songs performed during Missy‘s Vanguard medley increased at least 492% in digital downloads and 66% in streams, with “Work It” leading in terms of total volume at 4,000 downloads and 3.5 million streams.

Lizzo’s “Good as Hell,” originally released in 2016, enjoyed 21,000 more downloads, up 215%, and 8.7 million streams, an increase of 27%, resulting in a Billboard Hot 100 at No. 52.
