Alanis Morissette Says Every Label Turned Down 'Jagged Little Pill' at First!

Alanis Morissette covers her ears while Jimmy Fallon reads out her amazing accomplishments during an interview on The Tonight Show on Wednesday (December 4) in New York City.

The 45-year-old singer is promoting the 25th anniversary of her album Jagged Little Pill and the new Broadway show of the same name, which features her music.

Alanis revealed that every label had rejected the album before someone finally took a chance on her. The album went on to sell 33 million copies worldwide.

“Not an uncommon thing for rejection,” Alanis said. She said she had written 10 songs and “when we got the rejections, I asked everyone to stop so that I could go back under my rock and keep writing. Rejection is not inspiring, but in some cases it is.”

“I went back and wrote more, and then once I was writing ‘All I Really Want,’ which is the last song on the record, we got a call to go meet Maverick / Guy Oseary, Madonna‘s label,” she said. Alanis met with him in her sweatpants and played some songs and he was “very excited.”

During the appearance, Alanis also performed her new song “Reasons I Drink” and sang in the subway in disguise with Jimmy!
