Deadline reports that the -year-old actor has teamed up with MGM for Project Hail Mary, which is based on the sci-fi novel by Andy Weir.

In the vein of Andy‘s popular novel “The Martian”, the new book is being described as a solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet.

The Martian‘s movie adaption was a huge box office success, earning over $630 million worldwide.

Ryan is set to play the astronaut, and it isn’t a big jump from his last role as Neil Armstrong in First Man.
