Johnny Depp Books First Big Comeback Movie, Though Netflix Is Not Backing It As Reported

Johnny will star as King Louis XV in the upcoming French movie La Favorite, marking his first big project since winning a defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The film will be directed by Maiwenn Le Besco and be released in French theaters in 2023. The movie is then expected to stream on Netflix in France after 15 months.

Variety reports that Netflix is not backing the movie. The streamer is simply licensing the film to be on the service after the theatrical window. It’s not yet clear how the movie will be released around the world.
