'Stranger Things' Actor Isn't Convinced Their Character Is Really Dead

Matthew Modine in Stranger Things

Matthew Modine opened up in a new interview with Vulture, very convinced that his character, Dr. Brenner aka Papa, isn’t truly dead, despite being left to die in the desert in the second to last episode.

“Three things are curious to me,” Matthew said. “How did he survive the Demogorgon? How did he survive One? And when Eleven tries to use her power against Dr. Brenner after blowing three guards in the air, he unflinchingly thwarts her and says, ‘You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you?’ She couldn’t get it to work on him. Is there something more to Brenner than meets the eye?”

Although he does admit wanting to return for more personal reasons: “I don’t want to believe it’s over, because I love the Duffers. I don’t want to believe it’s over, because I can’t wait to work with Millie [Bobby Brown] again.”

However, Ross and Matt Duffer insist that Dr. Brenner is gone for good.

“For real this time. He’s toast,” the said on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
