Dan Harmon Discusses Why That One 'Community' Star Won't Be Back For The Movie: 'I Don’t Know If It’s Legal'

During a conversation at NYCC, Dan opened up about the reasons Chevy Chase won’t be back.

“I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back,” he said during the panel. “That may be out of my hands. There may something I sign for with an insurance company.”

Chevy previously opened up about leaving the show, and not enjoying his time on it.

Chatter also suggests that Chevy won’t be back over his racist behavior towards Donald Glover.

“Chevy was the first to realize how immensely gifted Donald was, and the way he expressed his jealousy was to try to throw Donald off,” Dan told The New Yorker in 2018. “I remember apologizing to Donald after a particularly rough night of Chevy‘s words, and Donald said, ‘I don’t even worry about it.’”

Donald added, “I just saw Chevy as fighting time — a true artist has to be OK with his reign being over. I can’t help him if he’s thrashing in the water. But I know there’s a human in there somewhere — he’s almost too human.”
