Alex Jones Ordered to Pay Nearly $1 Billion to Sandy Hook Victims' Families

Alex Jones will be paying hundreds of millions of dollars.

The 48-year-old conspiracy theorist and alt-right radio show host and Infowars’ parent company Free Speech Systems was ordered to pay the families of eight Sandy Hook victims and an F.B.I. agent who responded to the scene of the 2012 shooting nearly $1 billion in damages, via the New York Times.

Alex was found liable for defamation, spending years claiming that the shooting was a hoax and accusing the families as being paid actors who were complicit in the plot. The families were threatened online and in person for years, and he used his platform to continue to perpetuate the lie.

The jury’s decision is expected to divide the money among 15 plaintiffs: 14 relatives of eight Sandy Hook victims, and William Aldenberg, an F.B.I. agent targeted by conspiracy theorists, via the news outlet.

He has a third Sandy Hook damages trial pending stemming from a defamation suit he lost to Lenny Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, parents of Noah Pozner. An earlier trial brought by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, parents of Jesse Lewis, ended with him being ordered to pay $4 million in compensatory damages and $45.2 million in punitive damages.

The 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut killed 20 first graders and six educators.

Find out about the shocking moment that happened in court this summer, when the legal counsel for Alex Jones accidentally sent his phone’s contents to the lawyers for the plaintiffs.
