Matthew Perry Reveals Zac Efron Turned Down a Movie That He Wrote
Matthew Perry recently finished writing the screenplay for an upcoming movie and he has revealed that Zac Efron has already turned down the chance to star in the film.
The two actors previously worked together in 17 Again, in which Zac played a younger version of Matthew‘s character.
The new film would feature Zac playing the younger version of Matthew‘s character yet again and it doesn’t seem he was interested in taking on that role again.
“I finished a screenplay that we’re out with to some people. Um, I wanna direct that,” Matthew said during an interview on SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw. “I have a small part in it. I wrote it for myself and then realized I’m 20 years too old to play this. So we’re trying to cast the leads now.”

Matthew was asked who he wants to star in the movie.
“Well, it was Zac Efron, but he said no. So we gotta find somebody who says yes. And that’ll be a whole new experience for me directing a movie, which, you know, I think I’ll be good at. I hope I’ll be good at. But that’s the, that’s the next thing is we’re, you know, I’m being offered acting jobs, and also we’re trying to cast this movie, so those are the things that are going on,” he said.
Matthew also revealed that Aubrey Plaza “almost” signed up for the movie.
