Meghan Markle Reveals Text Exchange with Estranged Father Thomas, Explains the Truth About What Happened in 2018

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are fully pulling the curtain back on everything that went down with her father, Thomas Markle, in the days leading up to their 2018 royal wedding.

If you don’t know, before the wedding, it was discovered that her now-estranged father had staged paparazzi photos.

Meghan and Harry opened up about everything in their Netflix docu-series, Harry & Meghan.

When it was discovered that her father might have been paid to pose for paparazzi photos pretending to read a book about the UK in public, Meghan was asked to contact him.

“That’s the first I was hearing of it,” she said when a Palace communications worker asked her to look into it and “find out if it’s true or not because it could be really damaging.”

She said to her dad, “Look, they’re saying you’re taking money from the tabloids for staged photos – is this true?

“He said no,” she added. “And on that call I said, look if they can’t stop this story it’s going to come out tomorrow.”

He said, “no no, I have things I need to do.”

“It felt really cagey,” she said of his reaction, “I was like, it doesn’t make sense. And when we hung up I looked at H and I said, ‘I don’t know why but I don’t believe him.’”

Meghan‘s mom and Thomas‘ ex Doria said she “was absolutely stunned that Tom would become a part of this circus… that he would capitalise, certainly as a parent that’s not what you do.”

“He wouldn’t pick up my call and instead he was talking to TMZ,” she said of the US tabloid. He suffered a heart attack just days before their May 19, 2018 wedding, but they could not get in contact with him, all the while he was speaking with TMZ. She sent him dozens of texts, and he ended up not attending the wedding.

“Someone texted back on his phone, it was really weird – you know how people text right, my dad used a lot of emojis and ellipsis and this was just the opposite.” She added that she believed her dad’s phone was compromised.

“And it called me Meghan, I was like he’s never called me Meghan any day that I’ve lived on this planet. Meg! All my friends call me Meg and my parents call me Meg, and I was like, ‘that’s not my dad,’” she continued.

Prince Harry shared, “it’s incredibly sad what happened. She had a father before this, and now she doesn’t have a father, and I shouldered that. If Meg wasn’t with me then her dad would still be her dad.”

On screen, several text messages were shared with the public.

Meghan texted her father on May 17, 2018, “Please can I ask that you stop talking to any press. You haven’t returned any of our 20+ calls since we all spoke on Saturday morning; which only adds to the hurt you’ve been causing. We aren’t angry but we really do need to speak to u. Love M and H.”

Thomas replied, “I’ve done nothing to hurt you Meghan or anyone else. I know nothing about phone calls I’m sorry my heart attack is there any inconvenience for you.”

He then added “if only I had died then you guys then you guys could pretend to be sad.”

Harry then responded, “Tom, it’s Harry, please answer your phone. I need to know this is actually you because it doesn’t sound like u at all.”

In an interview last year, Thomas discussed the last time he spoke to Meghan and Harry. Thomas has indicated he has felt ghosted by his daughter.
