Karl Lagerfeld's Beloved Cat Choupette Issued a Statement About Missing the Met Gala 2023

Fans were hoping that Karl Lagerfeld‘s beloved cat would make a red carpet appearance at the 2023 Met Gala. However, it was not meant to be.

If you were unaware, the late designer and his artistry inspired the theme for the biggest night in fashion this year. Karl passed away in 2019, but his pet Choupette is still alive and well.

There were rumors that she would make an appearance in his memory, but she released a statement a few hours before the event began letting fans know why she’d be missing out.

“A million thanks to all of you my fans, animal lovers & Daddy’s admirers,” Choupette‘s new owner wrote in a post on Instagram on Monday (May 1). “You have all shown the kindest enthusiasm and unconditional support, I say MERCI ! Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the #METGALA2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay peacefully & cozy at home. We pay tribute to my Daddy every day since his parting and we are very moved to see one more day dedicated to him.”

While Choupette didn’t make it to the 2023 Met Gala, multiple celebrities paid tribute to the stylish feline. Doja Cat pulled off an epic transformation into what many believe was Karl‘s beloved cat with the help of prosthetics. Jared Leto took a more literal approach, wearing a cat costume complete with a furry mask before changing into a second look.
