'Queen Charlotte' Brimsley Actors Sam Clemmett & Hugh Sachs Speak Out About Brimsley & Reynolds

Netflix‘s newest series, Queen Charlotte, is already a big hit among fans.

Many of those who binged the 6-episode Bridgerton spinoff seemed to be invested in not only Charlotte and George’s love story, but also Brimsley and Reynolds, who are the aides to the monarchs.

Sam Clemmett and Hugh Sachs, who play the young and older versions of Brimsley, opened up in separate interviews about their roles, and also about the romance between Brimsley and Reynolds.

Talking with RadioTimes, Sam told the outlet that going into the series, the queer relationship between Brimsley and Reynolds was something they knew.

“We didn’t know to what extent and how their storyline was going to fit into the narrative, so it was exciting for us going into it,” he explained.

As far as that heartbreaking ending scene, where the image of the two are dancing fades into an older Brimsley dancing solo, Sam says that they’re “asking questions as well. Ever since we got the final episode through, we’ve been like, ‘Where is he? What’s happened? Is he okay?’

“I, for one, would love to know what happens,” Sam says. “Freddie constantly jokes that he’s having a nice lie down in the Maldives with a mojito, which is very well deserved.”

He also shared that the two are “absolutely still in love with each other. They’re each other’s soul mates. They mean the world to one another.”

Hugh also spoke to Vulture about the relationship, where he said that there was a scene set in 1817, which would’ve explained what happened to Reynolds. However, it wasn’t filmed.

“There was a scene that we didn’t film because it was cut, where I was going to meet the older Reynolds,” he says. “He was the love of his life, and for whatever reason, they could not stay together. So when they would pass each other in the passageway in the deleted scene, it wasn’t a toxic moment. Because of the world they inhabited, it was still a hangable offense to be gay, and it was just not possible.”
