Harrison Ford Jokes He Cross Stitches & Sings To His Plants While Reacting to Snake Species Being Named For Him

Harrison Ford is reacting to the latest newly discovered animal species being named after him.

The 81-year-old Indiana Jones star was the namesake for a recently discovered copper-and-black snake found in Peru’s Andes Mountains. The official name is Tachymenoides harrisonfordi.

While hearing of the news, Harrison was perplexed over why scientists keep naming animals after him. He’s already the namesake to an ant (Pheidole harrisonfordi) and a spider (Calponia harrisonfordi).

“These scientists keep naming critters after me, but it’s always the ones that terrify children. I don’t understand. I spend my free time cross-stitching. I sing lullabies to my basil plants, so they won’t fear the night,” he joked in a statement from Conservation International.

Harrison added, “In all seriousness, this discovery is humbling. It’s a reminder that there’s still so much to learn about our wild world — and that humans are one small part of an impossibly vast biosphere. On this planet, all fates are intertwined, and right now, one million species are teetering on the edge of oblivion. We have an existential mandate to mend our broken relationship with nature and protect the places that sustain life.”

The snake being named after Harrison comes just after his latest outing as the title character in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

It also pays homage to Harrison‘s most recognizable line in the franchise: “Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes?”
