Producer Reveals the Ariana Grande Song That Almost Went to Beyonce!

Ariana Grande and Beyonce are two of the biggest names in music and have so many hits between them.

Knowing that, we were still surprised to learn that one of Ariana‘s songs was initially written with Beyonce in mind!

Babyface, the producer and songwriter who worked on the song, opened up about the history behind the number and explained how far along it got with Bey before she passed on it.

The acclaimed musician also looked back on his earliest days working with Ari and one thing that she was adamant about always wanting to do.

The song in question was “Baby I,” which just missed out on the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was included on Ariana‘s debut album Yours Truly.

“One of the songs we did, ‘Baby I,’ was actually written for Beyoncé,” Babyface told GQ.

He continued, saying, “Beyoncé actually…I don’t know if we actually demoed it, but I played it for her. She almost did it. And then she ultimately decided not to do it. And that went to Ariana who said, ‘I’ll do that. I’ll take a Beyoncé leftover.’”

Speaking about Ari, Babyface also recalled that one of their conversations about her career.

“The funny thing is, I remember having a conversation with Ariana, and asking her what she really wants to do. And way back then, she said, the thing that she’s into more than anything is musicals. And that she loves Judy Garland. ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and all the music that Judy Garland sang from Meet Me in St. Louis. She would sing things off the cuff from that. And you could hear that that’s where her heart was,” he explained.

Of course, the hitmaker is now set to bring Glinda to life in the live-action Wicked movie!

On that note, the hitmaker very recently returned to her roots in a big way.
