Park‘s agency, ArtistCompany, told CNN on Monday (December 13) that she was diagnosed during a recent health check-up and is recovering after undergoing surgery.
According to the American Cancer Society, thyroid cancer starts in the thyroid gland and creates hormones that affect a person’s metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure.
“Thyroid cancer is commonly diagnosed at a younger age than most other adult cancers. And women are three times more likely to develop thyroid cancer than men,” the website explains. “Most thyroid cancers can be treated successfully.”
Park was getting ready to go on the road to promote her new movie Special Delivery, but her illness has changed her plans, leaving her “very disappointed.”
“Park So Dam will focus on her recovery so that she can see you all healthy in the future, and ArtistCompany will also do our best to help the actor recover her health,” the statement said.
The statement also thanked Park‘s co-stars and the new movie’s co-star “overcoming this difficult time together.”
We wish Park So-dam all the best.
