This Is What Happened with Steve Harvey & That Miss Universe Announcement

UPDATE: We’ve been told that “the Miss Universe Organization confirmed that Mr. Harvey was correct and Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados is the winner of the 2019 National Costume competition.”

Steve Harvey is giving us some major déjà vu.

During the 2019 Miss Universe on Sunday night (December 8), the 62-year-old TV personality and host of the event accidentally announced the wrong winner during the National Costume category.

“Earlier this week, all the contestants competed in a National Costume contest,” Steve began explaining. “Here’s the look at the winner, Miss Philippines…”

The winner then asked to take away the microphone so she could kindly correct him. “It’s not Philippines,” Shweta Sekhon told the host. “It’s Malaysia.”

Steve then went on the explain that the blunder wasn’t his fault.

“Well… let me explain something to you. I just read that in a teleprompter,” Steve admitted. “You all quit doing this to me. I can read this. They are trying to fix it now. This is what they did to me back in 2015.”

If you forgot, Steve mistakenly named the wrong winner during the Miss Universe competition in 2015.

At the time, Steve first said that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez was the winner, but the real winner was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
