David Byrne gave one of the most memorable performances of the night at the 2020 Tony Awards!

The 69-year-old singer, producer, and filmmaker took to the stage for a performance of “Burning Down the House” during the awards show held on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

The song is from the Broadway musical American Utopia, which is based on the songs from David‘s 10th studio album of the same name.

During the awards show, American Utopia was presented with a Special Tony Award, which are given to shows that don’t fall into any of the competitive categories.

This marked David‘s first Tony award, and he is now only an Emmy award away from obtaining EGOT status!

American Utopia originally ran on Broadway from October 2019 to February 2020. The show was recently extended for a 17-week run lasting through March 2022. You can buy tickets here.

Lots of former Tony Award winners returned to the annual show to help honor the best of Broadway!

Stephanie J. Block and Patina Miller were among the former winners who presented at the 2020 Tony Awards on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

For those who don’t know, Stephanie won Best Actress in a Musical in 2019 for The Cher Show while Patina won the same award in 2013 for Pippin.

Other former Tony winners who appeared at the show to present included Bebe Neuwirth, Ruthie Ann Miles, and Cyndi Lauper.

Even though we’re in 2021, this is actually the 2020 Tony Awards because it’s the ceremony delayed from June 2020. The awards show will honor the best of Broadway’s 2019-20 season!

The 2020 Tony Awards ceremony was a homecoming for legendary actress Chita Rivera.

The 88-year-old actress appeared at the event to present the award for Best Musical alongside composer Andrew Lloyd Webber on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

Chita originated the role of Anita in the classic musical West Side Story and the musical actually played at the Winter Garden Theatre in the 1950s. The production’s opening night was on September 26, 1957, which means Chita just returned to the same exact location 64 years later.

The new movie version of West Side Story will be hitting theaters in December and a brand new trailer was recently released.

The 49-year-old singer/actress joined Ben on stage for a performance of “Move On” from Sunday in the Park with George.

“@AnikaNoniRose and #BenPlatt absolutely slaying Sondheim’s gorgeous “Move On” from “Sunday in the Park With George” at the #TonyAwards #TonyAwards2021,” one fan wrote about the performance on social media afterwards.

Another added, “Ben Platt and Anika Noni Rose – AHHHH #TonyAwards.”

John Legend is taking over the stage at the 2020 Tony Awards!

The 42-year-old EGOT winner joined the cast of Ain’t Too Proud for a performance during the awards show on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

Decked out in a hot pink suit, John kicked off the performance by singing “My Girl” before the guys of the hit Broadway musical came out and joined him.

The guys then started dancing around on stage as John sang “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”

Earlier in the night, John walked the red carpet with wife Chrissy Teigen, who wowed in a sparkling and ruffled gown.

The list of winners from the 2020 Tony Awards has been announced!

It was an unusual year for the Tonys because of the delays from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though we’re in 2021, this is actually the 2020 Tony Awards because it’s the ceremony delayed from June 2020. The awards show honored the best of Broadway’s 2019-20 season!

Paramount+ streamed the two-hour Tony Awards ceremony starting at 7pm ET and CBS then aired a two-hour primetime special, The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!, starting at 9pm ET. The primetime special will include performances from beloved classics and the three Best Musical nominees.

22 out of 25 awards were announced during the Paramount+ special and the final three awards of the night will be announced during the CBS special. We’ll update the list when those awards are revealed.

Jennifer Holliday totally stole the show at the 2020 Tony Awards!

The legendary entertainer returned to the Broadway show for a Dreamgirls performance on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

Jennifer originated the role of Effie White in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls back in 1981 and she won Best Lead Actress in a Musical at the 1982 Tony Awards.

During the awards ceremony, which was streamed on Paramount+, Jennifer performed her signature song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” The crowd was on their feet throughout the performance and the winners who accepted awards after the performance all thanked her for gifting them with that moment!

Jennifer‘s Dreamgirls co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph was there to introduce the performance.
