Anderson Cooper is opening up about fatherhood!

Since welcoming son Wyatt in late April, the 53-year-old CNN anchor has been enjoying time with the newborn, who he is raising with best friend and ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani.

“There is no acrimony between us,” Anderson shared with People. “Even though it’s maybe unconventional because he’s my ex, he is my family.”

Despite no longer being together, Anderson went on to explain why he and Benjamin decided to co-parent Wyatt.

“I knew what it was like growing up without a dad,” Anderson shared, whose father Wyatt Emory Cooper died during heart surgery when he was 10. “If there was ever something that happened to me, I would want Wyatt to be surrounded by love.”

Anderson and Benjamin split back in March 2018 after almost 10 years together.

“While we were a couple, he wasn’t sure he wanted kids, which was one of the issues we’d always had,” Anderson admitted. “But when I decided, ‘I’m just going to do this,’ he started to be interested.”

The 52-year-old CNN anchor spoke to Howard Stern about his choice to raise his newborn son, Wyatt, with ex Benjamin Maisani.

“I don’t really have a family, and so my friends become my family. And this is somebody that I was involved with for 10 years, he’s a great guy,” he explained.

“We didn’t work out as a couple…but when I was a little kid, it was just my mom and my brother. But it was my mom and she was not the most parental person and I wish some adult, after my dad died, had stepped in,” he went on to say.

“So I thought, if something happens to me or even if something doesn’t happen to me, the more people love my son and are in his life, I’m all for that. My ex is a great guy and it’s good to have two parents, if you can.”

He also revealed he plans to have Wyatt call him “dad” or “daddy” and Benjamin “papa.” Plus, Benjamin, who is from France, will speak to him in French too!

He also revealed which famous gay dad reached out to him after hearing the news.

Anderson Cooper has revealed that despite not being back together with ex, Benjamin Maisani, they will co-parent his new baby, Wyatt, together.

The 52-year-old journalist opened up about the situation during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“Even though (Benjamin and I are) not together anymore but, you know, he’s my family and I want him to be Wyatt’s family as well,” he shared.

Anderson announced that he had welcomed the baby just last week.

Anderson confirmed his split from Benjamin back in March 2018, saying that they had “separated as boyfriends some time ago.”

Just last night, Anderson announced that he has become a father for the first time after welcoming a baby boy via surrogate… and now we’ve learned that he got back together with Benjamin recently!

“Anderson has reconciled with Ben,” an insider told Us Weekly. “They very quietly got back together and are planning ahead. Ben is selling one of his clubs and cutting back on how much he does at night so he can spend more time at home with Anderson and the baby.”

For those that don’t know, Benjamin is a nightclub mogul in New York City.

Anderson Cooper has confirmed that he and longtime partner Benjamin Maisani have split after nine years together.

“Benjamin and I separated as boyfriends some time ago,” the 50-year-old news anchor confirmed to Just Jared in a statement. “We are still family to each other, and love each other very much. We remain the best of friends, and will continue to share much of our lives together.”

Anderson made his breakup statement after reportedly being photographed with Dallas radiologist Victor Lopez on his private Instagram.

Bradley and Irina have rarely been seen together since welcoming their first child together, a daughter named Lea de Seine Shayk Cooper. She was born in March.
