Michelle Obama flashes a smile as she is presented with the official White House Christmas tree by Dave and Mary Vander Velden of Oconto, Wis., at the North Portico of the White House on Friday (November 25) Washington, D.C.
The 52-year-old U.S. First Lady was joined by her young nephews Austin and Aaron Robinson as well as her dogs Bo and Sunny.
The tree is a 19-foot-tall Balsam fir, and it will be on display in the Blue Room of the White House during the holiday season.
The event marked the second time this week that the Obamas‘ nephews accompanied the President and First Lady at a holiday appearance – usually the role is filled by the couple’s daughters Sasha, 15, and Malia, 18.
“These are our replacement kids,” Michelle joked at the tree ceremony. “This is what happens when you get teenagers. One’s asleep. These two are up. This is what we’ve got now.”
At the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon on Wednesday, Barack shared that their daughters couldn’t handle another year of puns like, “Yes, we cran.”
