The numbers are in for the Season 2 finale of Big Little Lies – and it was big!

The hit HBO series was watched by 1.98 million people in its initial broadcast, according to Variety on Tuesday (July 23).

The number marks the highest initial viewership for the series to date. In comparison, the show’s first season finale finished off with 1.9 million total viewers, rising to 2.5 million overall.

Season 2 is averaging 12 million viewers per episode, up from 8.5 million per episode on Season 1 according to HBO.

Remember how Shailene Woodley revealed a “spoiler” for the Big Little Lies season finale last week? Well, it was all a LIE!

The 27-year-old actress was on Jimmy Kimmel Live one week ago and HBO didn’t provide a clip for the show to play.

Instead, Shailene said, “In the beginning of the next episode, it’s a little bit of a cliffhanger, but all of the women go to visit Perry’s grave and his body’s missing.”

Well, THIS NEVER HAPPENED!

The season finale aired last night and there was never a scene where the women go to Perry’s grave. If you follow Shailene on Instagram, then you knew a few days ago that she was lying.

“TOO LATE TO TELL YOU THAT WAS JUST… one… big. little. lie? @jimmykimmellive,” Shailene wrote on her Instagram page. “as IF i’d give anything away …👅.”

After the season two finale on Sunday (July 21), the 27-year-old actress took to Instagram to share a message about how “f–king grateful” she felt after the show received so much love.

A fan then commented on the post asking, “Season 3? Check Y or N” – to which Shailene responded, “I hope so.”

The finale of season two of Big Little Lies just aired on HBO!

Going into the finale, Celeste (Nicole Kidman) was fighting to keep custody of her twin boys from her mother-in-law Mary Louise (Meryl Streep).

As her mother’s condition suffered in the hospital, Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) struggled with whether she should kill her mom while the big secret loomed over her head.

Renata (Laura Dern) is still reeling from the lies of her husband. Madeline’s (Reese Witherspoon) marriage is still up in the air after she revealed that she cheated, and Jane (Shailene Woodley) finds it hard to get close anyone after her rape.

As of right now, HBO has not picked up Big Little Lies for a third season, but one of the stars recently revealed that they “would love” to come back for more.

Nicole Kidman is not ready to say goodbye to Big Little Lies just yet!

Ahead of the season two premiere, the 52-year-old Emmy-winning actress revealed that she “would love” to continue working on the HBO series.

“I think we would love to do a season three because there is certainly ideas,” Nicole shared with News Corp Australia, adding, “But we would not do it without all of the same people involved…even the kids.”

Shailene Woodley revealed a juicy spoiler on Monday’s (July 15) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live ahead of the upcoming Big Little Lies season finale.

The 27-year-old actress told Jimmy that HBO allowed her to disclose one tiny detail about the finale episode since they did not want to offer up a clip for the interview.

“In exchange for the clip, they told me that I share. This whole time, they’ve told me, ‘don’t say anything’,” Shailene expressed.

“In the beginning of the next episode, it’s a little bit of a cliffhanger, but all of the women go to visit Perry’s grave and his body’s missing,” Shailene revealed about Alexander Skarsgard‘s character.

Shailene Woodley also talked about being an optimistic person, loving Fiji, her rugby star boyfriend Ben Volavola, using a flip phone and saving our oceans despite getting seasick.

Is Big Little Lies coming back for a third season?!

As season two of the hit HBO series nears the end, HBO president Casey Bloys is addressing the possibility of another season.

“I love this group of people – I would do anything with them,” Casey shared with TVLine. “But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood. We have deals with some of them — Nicole [Kidman] is doing her next show [The Undoing] with us. I just think it’s not realistic.”

“Look, if they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules!’ – then sure,” Casey added. “But I just don’t think it’s realistic.”
