Stephen Colbert Takes Jab at Bill Maher at Emmys 2017 (Video)

Earlier this summer, Bill Maher shockingly used a racial slur on his HBO show, and host Stephen Colbert brought it up during his monologue at the 2017 Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (September 17) in Los Angeles.

“This is the most diverse group of Emmy nominees in history. That’s impressive. I didn’t know you could applaud while patting yourself on the back at the same time,” Stephen said. He then named some of the black nominees, and added Bill‘s name. “I assume he’s black, since he’s so comfortable using the ‘n’ word.”

Bill Maher Apologizes On-Air For Use of N-Word: 'I Did A Bad Thing'

Bill Maher is offering an on-air apology for using the N-word during an episode of his show last week.

The 61-year-old comedian previously issued a statement apologizing for his actions during the interview with Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

During his show on Friday (June 9), he offered a second apology.

“I did a bad thing. For black folks, that word, I don’t care who you are, it’s caused pain. It doesn’t matter that it was not said in malice, it caused pain and that’s why I apologized. I’m not that big of an asshole,” Bill said.

He added, “We’re all evolving. It was wrong and I own up to that. It happened, and it was wrong. People make mistakes, we’re all sinners. I’m just a product of the country, but I don’t want to pretend that this is more of a race thing than a comedian thing. We are trained to get a laugh. This is not the first time I’ve gotten in trouble, because that’s what comedians are somehow wired to do. Sometimes we transgress a sensitivity point.”

Bill Maher has released a statement to apologize for using the N-word during Friday night’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.

The 61-year-old comedian says that he regrets using the racial slur during an interview with Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

“Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show,” Maher said in his statement (via Variety).

“Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry,” he added.
