It was just revealed that the Disney animated movie Hercules is going to be turned into a live-action movie and Skylar Astin is hoping to be considered for the film!

The 32-year-old actor, best known for his work in Pitch Perfect and NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, performed a cover of the song “Go the Distance” and posted it on his Twitter account.

Skylar captioned the video with the man raising hand emoji. He captioned the second clip, “I’m also available for the soundtrack. Thank you @DisneyStudios for your consideration during this casting process.”

A live-action Hercules is coming!

The classic 1997 Disney musical film will be getting a live-action reboot, THR reported on Thursday (April 30).

The project will be produced by Avengers directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, and written by Dave Callaham, who launched The Expendables and Marvel‘s upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“The new Hercules is in early development and this being a Disney title, rumors have already swirled about other producers and even filmmakers. The Russos are the only producers on the project and will not direct, according to insiders,” the report reads.

While casting rumors have swirled in recent weeks, in part due to Ariana Grande performing “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” during the recent Disney Family Singalong, “the project is far from the casting stage,” and it is “unclear what the take on Hercules will be or if it will even keep the musical elements.”

Writer Dave Callaham is currently working on Shang-Chi, as well as Wonder Woman 1984 and Spider-Man 3. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

The lead roles for the upcoming Off-Broadway musical adaption of Disney’s Hercules have been revealed!

The Public Theater announced that Hercules will be played by Jelani Alladin – who originated the role of Kristoff in the Broadway production of Frozen.

James Monroe Iglehart – who won a Tony Award for playing the Genie in Aladdin – will be playing the sarcastic satyr Phil.

Spring Awakening‘s Krysta Rodriguez will play Meg, while Roger Bart – who provided the singing voice of young Hercules in the 1997 animated film – will play Hades.

The Hercules musical will be directed by Lear deBessonett and will be presented by a special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions. The show will be playing a free run from August 31 to September 8 at the Public Theater’s Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

It was just announced that the 28-year-old actor has signed on to star as the title role in the upcoming flick Hercules 3D, according to THR.

“It takes more than a good physique to portray the most legendary, mythological personality in history – and Kellan has exactly that, personality,” director Renny Harlin said in a statement. “He’s not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart.”

The film is set to begin shooting in May.
