Seth Rogen Breaks Silence on 'The Interview': 'Freedom Has Prevailed!'

Seth Rogen has finally broken his silence after the Sony Hack caused his movie The Interview to be cancelled due to some terror threats.

Today, it was announced select theaters will be playing the film on Christmas day and the movie will also be released on VOD.

“The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn’t give up! The Interview will be shown at theaters willing to play it on Xmas day!” Seth tweeted just moments ago about the film.

'The Interview' To Play Select Theaters on Christmas Day, Will Be Available Via VOD

In the latest update from the major Sony hack designed to shut down The Interview, Sony is now allowing several theaters to screen the movie on Christmas day.

Two independent movie theaters, the Plaza Atlanta theater and Alamo Drafthouse, announced the news on Twitter after many major movie houses said last week that they would not be showing the controversial film after terror threats came through.

THR is also reporting that Sony will offer the film as a VOD option so it can be available to the greater public.

The Interview stars James Franco and Seth Rogen, and was originally scheduled to be released on Christmas Day before the major hack shut the operation down.

'The Interview' Facebook & Twitter Accounts Deleted After Movie Release Cancelled

Two social media accounts for The Interview have just been deleted after the film’s release was cancelled by Sony earlier this week.

It is unclear if Sony had made the decision to remove the Facebook and Twitter accounts or if hackers had disabled them themselves.

Before the Facebook account was deleted, the movie had more than 366,000 followers, while the film’s Twitter page (@TheInterview) had 35,100 followers. Currently, the Twitter account says, “@TheInterview hasn’t tweeted yet,” which indicates that the account is inactive.

Sony Releases New Statement, Defends Not Releasing 'The Interview'

Sony has just released a new statement on why they dropped the release of their film The Interview!

“Sony Pictures Entertainment is and always has been strongly committed to the First Amendment. For more than three weeks, despite brutal intrusions into our company and our employees’ personal lives, we maintained our focus on one goal: getting the film The Interview released. Free expression should never be suppressed by threats and extortion,” the studio shared.

Sony added, “The decision not to move forward with the December 25 theatrical release of The Interview was made as a result of the majority of the nation’s theater owners choosing not to screen the film. This was their decision.”

Sony continued to say that they were looking for alternatives, so people will have the opportunity to see the movie in the future.

Sony CEO Responds to Obama, Hits Back at President's Comments

Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton breaks his silence to address President Obama‘s comments about the studio’s decision to cancel the release of The Interview.

“We have not caved, we have not given in, we have not backed down,” the 54-year-old Sony exec shared to CNN.

He added, “I think the unfortunate part is… The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened. We do not own movie theaters. We cannot decide what will be played in movie theaters.”

Sean Penn Slams Sony For Pulling the Plug on 'The Interview'

Sean Penn is not happy about Sony’s decision to stop the release of The Interview after threats from Sony hackers.

“This week, the distributors who wouldn’t show The Interview and Sony have sent ISIS a commanding invitation. I believe ISIS will accept the invitation. Pandora’s box is officially open,” the 54-year-old actor said in a statement.

Sean added, “The damage we do to ourselves typically outweighs the harm caused by outside threats or actions. Then by caving to the outside threat, we make our nightmares real. The decision to pull The Interview is historic. It’s a case of putting short term interests ahead of the long term. If we don’t get the world on board to see that this is a game changer, if this hacking doesn’t frighten the Chinese and the Russians, we’re in for a very different world, a very different country, community, and a very different culture.”

Seth Rogen Arrives at Sony Studios After Defending 'The Interview' on 'The Colbert Report' (Video)

Seth Rogen makes his way out of a car while arriving at Sony Pictures Studios with a bodyguard on Thursday (December 18) in Culver City, Calif.

That same day, the 32-year-old actor’s pal and Interview costar James Franco was spotted leaving the New Museum on the Bowery before heading to the Park Avenue Armory with friends in New York City.

“We did not think [North Korea] would love the concept of the movie to be totally honest,” Seth recently said on The Colbert Report before the movie and press tour was cancelled. “But more than anything we wanted to make a movie that had one foot in reality. That’s something we as filmmakers like and think is interesting as audience members as well.”

He continued, “I personally think it is appropriate to make jokes about real things. We thought maybe we could inject some slight relevance.”
