Avril Lavigne rocks the house during a surprise performance at the Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics at BC Place in Canada on Sunday (February 28).

The 25-year-old Canada native performed her hits “My Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend” at the ceremony, which also included remarks and performances by Neil Young, Catherine O’Hara, Michael J. Fox and Michael Buble!

Late last week, Avril was spotted leaving the Alice in Wonderland premiere after party with ex Deryck Whibley.

FYI: Avril is wearing a Tom Binns for Disney Couture Red Queen Bracelet.

    she was AMAZINGG…Great Performance.!!

I APOLOGIZE ON BEHALF OF ALL CANADIANS. THE’ MUSICAL’ ACTS WERE AWFUL AND STUCK IN 2005.

  • Kelly

I agree with yikes. I also apologize on behalf of all Canadians. Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Simple Plan, Hedley?? Seriously is that the best they could do? Eeek! At least they had Alanis and Buble..

  • Elena

    she’s awesome!

  • sickle

I would also like to apologize to the world for the choice of musical acts. At least NBC cut their broadcast before this embarrassment happened.
We redefine indie rock over the past few years and they force everyone to listen to that crap? The only athletes that looked excited were a handful of Japanese girls. CTV actually caught one girl shaking her head in disgust during Avril’s performance, and then when she realized she was on camera she hid behind some guy.
    Seriously, VANOC? SERIOUSLY!?

  • evalynn

i thought she did great. the music was just whatever, the point of the closing ceremony was to have everyone come together, to party. why does it matter what music you’re listening to.

  • bandit

I too apologize on behalf of Canada…such poor musical acts, embarassing!

  • yikes

Um cause it makes Canada look bad and lacking in musical talent!
Its like all we have are annoying has-beens and never-was.

  • annasaurus

They should have at least had Celine Dion or Shania Twain. I too apologize for Canada. When I heard, Simple Plan, I just facepalmed.

  • tdub55

Despite some of the musical acts not being top, top shelf, at least people got to see them, instead of our idiotic network, NBC, cutting away from his to show the indesribably lame Seinfeld show. So bad. All in all, I thank Canada for EVERYTHING they did for the Olympics. Great opening ceremony, wonderful facilities and events, a GREAT hockey final and a moving, then truly hilarious and wifty closing ceremony. Thanks, Canada, you really did yourself proud.

  • Diego

Y do u guys hate on Avril?? she’s the most famous Canadian isn’t she? I’m not Canadian btw lol

  • Catalina

I can’t believe they chose someone who literally spit on someone to perform in the closing ceremonies. Number one reason i did not watch it.

  • I n F a m o u s l y C o o l

    …ahahahahahaha

  • Ang

My god, she sounded like she was slowly strangling a cat.

Seriously terrible. Which considering it was prerecorded lipsync. Has she never heard of autotune? Use it girl, seriously.

Now I just have this shriek in my head:
AAA JUSSS WAAANNNN BBBBBB YURRR GURRLLLFRENDDDDDD

But at least she was better than listening to that Emo whinner, Alanis.

  • Ang

    @Diego:

I hate on her she’s a triple threat: She can’t sing, cauliflower has better stage presence, and I’ve never seen an interview where she didn’t come across as a snotty, unpleasant, poser.

  • Rhonda

Loved the Canadian Olympics, job well done!

  • Jessica

I’m PROUD to be CANADIAN. But I do APOLOGIZE for the miserable musical acts :(
I swear, we could have done better!

  • yupper

    Where was Blue Rodeo?

  • Liz

Oh Canada, did you loose all your national pride when you lost the ice hockey match? You can do so much better than Avril.

  • slambang

Avril is horribly overrated and untalented. But Canada is still awesome. (I’m American, BTW, but I do love Canada!)

  • Kristen

Um, Liz… where have you been? Canada WON the hockey game, thank you very much :)

  • jessica

Haha oh my Catherine was right, we do apologize! But honestly guys they are the musical talent we have. Get over it. But we still have the gold in hockey!

  • Sweet Jebus

    Apologies for these bands accepted.

  • http://bbwloversmatch.com bbwloversmatch

    I love her smile

  • REST OF THE WORLD

Canadians sure do like to apologize, don’t they? What up with that?

  • Avril rocked and you know it

Avril was amazing and im so glad she didnt lip sing unlike most of the others
    She looked great as well
@yikes: dont worry about-the music acts were great on the behalf of england

  • woops

i say, they should have called canadian rapper drake!!

  • Beau

She looks great. She’s looking like a real woman with her cute skirt and rocking heels because I was getting tired of that tomboyish look.

  • Rick

Where was Rush, The Tragically Hip, The Birthday Massacre when you need them. Avril, lousy pop music!!!!!!

  • Giovanna

I love Avril and everybody was enjoying her music. If you are apologizing for your music THEN MAKE SOMEONE FAMOUS that you don’t think it’s crap. Stupidass Canadians. You can’t even be proud of someone that became famous and is from Canada. ¬¬

  • christiane

that was the worst musical performance i have ever witnessed. she should practice a little more before calling herself a professional musician

  • Heather

I still think she is awesome! Hot, plus catchy songs, and a good clothing line.

  • Venom

Little bitch is looking smoking hot lately.
Too bad her taste in men is super horrible.

  • drew

y’all canucks should be ashamed of yourselves…. hatin on your fellow canadian… low class sluts you all are… Avril is the best damn thing

  • sin

aVRIL WASN’T THAT BAD. iT WAS THAT DOUCHE BAG GUY THAT TRIED TO SING OVER HER.

  • sin

i watched it again. She really isn’t that bad. I actually liked her. It was that moron dude that tried to sing in a girls place. He ruined it.
Have any of you seen her perform in an unplugged situation? She is pretty good with just her voice. This guy is drowning her out.

  • babi lo!

Gah! Alanis Morissette was lip synching, avril sings live, and it was well

  • Giorgio

the guitarist ruined avril perfomance, he sucks

  • damon

there’s nothing wrong with her music, she sings as well. her voice is getting better than before, now what?

  • http://meetsinglenurses.com/ meetsinglenurses

    She is pretty and meetsinglenurses

  • Brooke

Avril is the MOST boring live act you can find in pop. She just stands there, looks bored, sings, scratches her head, sings, stands, on and on. I saw a DVD from when she was still a popular act, and that’s ALL she did on stage. Not even for really bouncy tunes. I guess maybe she’s trying to save her voice, but come on, show a little enthusiasm for your own stupid songs.

(or run away to the moon and never come back… because I hate you and your music)

  • Music Lover

Snore. This chick is a bore, just like her music.

  • Robert

@slambang: I think you have no idea about music. Avril is one of the most talented people in the world. She can sing better than Shania and Alanis.

Nickelback and Simple Plan are amazing too, and I don ´t think, that all Canadians hate them.

  • rockstar1729

wow, the guy is sooo annoying..he should have left the singing to avril..

  • That Guy

I turned off when they said “Nickleback”

But I did like The Shat and MJF.
GOLD for Canada with those two. ;)

  • Emmanuel

    BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT.

She represents Canada perfectly and my favorite 2 songs ever!
    together on a perfromance!
    WOW
