Avril Lavigne Rocks Vancouver Olympics Closing Ceremony

Avril Lavigne rocks the house during a surprise performance at the Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics at BC Place in Canada on Sunday (February 28).

The 25-year-old Canada native performed her hits “My Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend” at the ceremony, which also included remarks and performances by Neil Young, Catherine O’Hara, Michael J. Fox and Michael Buble!

Late last week, Avril was spotted leaving the Alice in Wonderland premiere after party with ex Deryck Whibley.

FYI: Avril is wearing a Tom Binns for Disney Couture Red Queen Bracelet.

I APOLOGIZE ON BEHALF OF ALL CANADIANS. THE’ MUSICAL’ ACTS WERE AWFUL AND STUCK IN 2005.

I agree with yikes. I also apologize on behalf of all Canadians. Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Simple Plan, Hedley?? Seriously is that the best they could do? Eeek! At least they had Alanis and Buble..

I would also like to apologize to the world for the choice of musical acts. At least NBC cut their broadcast before this embarrassment happened.
We redefine indie rock over the past few years and they force everyone to listen to that crap? The only athletes that looked excited were a handful of Japanese girls. CTV actually caught one girl shaking her head in disgust during Avril’s performance, and then when she realized she was on camera she hid behind some guy.
Seriously, VANOC? SERIOUSLY!?

i thought she did great. the music was just whatever, the point of the closing ceremony was to have everyone come together, to party. why does it matter what music you’re listening to.

Um cause it makes Canada look bad and lacking in musical talent!
Its like all we have are annoying has-beens and never-was.

They should have at least had Celine Dion or Shania Twain. I too apologize for Canada. When I heard, Simple Plan, I just facepalmed.

Despite some of the musical acts not being top, top shelf, at least people got to see them, instead of our idiotic network, NBC, cutting away from his to show the indesribably lame Seinfeld show. So bad. All in all, I thank Canada for EVERYTHING they did for the Olympics. Great opening ceremony, wonderful facilities and events, a GREAT hockey final and a moving, then truly hilarious and wifty closing ceremony. Thanks, Canada, you really did yourself proud.

I can’t believe they chose someone who literally spit on someone to perform in the closing ceremonies. Number one reason i did not watch it.

My god, she sounded like she was slowly strangling a cat.

Seriously terrible. Which considering it was prerecorded lipsync. Has she never heard of autotune? Use it girl, seriously.

Now I just have this shriek in my head:
AAA JUSSS WAAANNNN BBBBBB YURRR GURRLLLFRENDDDDDD

But at least she was better than listening to that Emo whinner, Alanis.

@Diego:

I hate on her she’s a triple threat: She can’t sing, cauliflower has better stage presence, and I’ve never seen an interview where she didn’t come across as a snotty, unpleasant, poser.

Loved the Canadian Olympics, job well done!

I’m PROUD to be CANADIAN. But I do APOLOGIZE for the miserable musical acts :(
I swear, we could have done better!

Where was Blue Rodeo?

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Oh Canada, did you loose all your national pride when you lost the ice hockey match? You can do so much better than Avril.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Avril is horribly overrated and untalented. But Canada is still awesome. (I’m American, BTW, but I do love Canada!)

Um, Liz… where have you been? Canada WON the hockey game, thank you very much :)
