Nicki Minaj's Grammys Performance - Watch Now!

Nicki Minaj levitates during her performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards held at Staples Center on Sunday (February 12) in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old rapper kicked it off by confessing the lyrics to her new single, “Roman Holiday,” while sitting next to The Pope, the same man she walked with on the red carpet earlier in the evening.

The performance, called “The exorcism of [Nicki's alter ego] Roman,” was choreograhed by Laurieann Gibson and featured religious imagery, pyrotechnics, and backup dancers dressed as monks.

“OMG @ that chris brown performance. >>>>>>>> SHUT DOOWWWNNNN,” Nicki tweeted about another one of the night’s performers.

    This is what happens now a days with music industry, we got people who are going to do whatever it takes to sell and to be out other. The image is more important then the music. Not cool

    @LOOP You feel like you have to pray after this performance? It isn’t clever enough to evoke any kind of moral outrage. It’s just bad in general.

    Mariah, Chaka, Patti, Gladys, Janet, Celine hell I’ll add Beyonce in the mix please come out with some music and show a performance. Mess was horrible I had more fun watching TLC VMA performances, Jodeci (K-Ci and JoJo) singing Lately on unplugged and watching MJ win his awards for Thriller and yes I am serious.

    I liked the performance a lot. I think you need to know about Nicki and her character Roman to really get it. There was a lot of backlash, but people said the same exact things about Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi performance at the VMAs and now everyone looks back on how amazing it was (and it was).

    she was sitting around thinking what lady gaga hasn’t done…and it came to her “oh damn, i got it…gaga has never done an possession, exorcist style” ….god wtf has this world…and world of music come to?

    I can’t believe people applauded that garbage!!!! That is NOT talent!!!! So wrong is so many ways! Lord help us!

  23. 23
    kelly. Says:

    Thank God for Adele!!!

    And I find it extremely ironic that Laurie Ann Gibson quit working for Lady Gaga because she was against the religious imagery and believed in the scripture and “didn’t want to be struck by God.”

  24. 24
    Blah Says:

    @Matt Valdez

    No, Matt. The difference between the two is that Lady Gaga’s performance is actually good, regardless of content.

    when the “artist” will understand!! respect religions!!! its always awfull and shocking see things like this!! it only causes people lose the respect to their music!! i’m catholic and i feel uncomfortable seing this!.. the fame and admiration must be created for the quality of music not for their ridiculous actions! just saying!
