Ben McKenzie & Mandy Moore: 'The Advocates' Pilot Set!

Ben McKenzie and Mandy Moore film a scene for their new CBS drama pilot The Advocates on Thursday (April 4) in Los Angeles.

The show revolves around a female lawyer (Moore) and a male ex-con (McKenzie) who team as victim advocates and go to the edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog.

“To clarify: I am doing “Advocates” in second position to #SouthLAnd If picked up for a sixth season, I am doing that. #SouthLAnd forever,” Ben told his fans on Twitter last month after the casting news was announced.

“I’m honored to be a part of the best cop show on TV (IMHO). I hope and pray it returns. Nothing would make me happier. #SouthLAnd forever,” he added.

Excellent news for Ben. I hope this is a go for CBS in the fall and the next step for Ben. I’d love to see him in a smart, multi-dimensional lead role. This sounds like a great character for him to tackle and a premise with legs. Wasn’t his character innocent and wrongly convicted? Game on!

  • taz

I think Ben’s an exceptional actor, so expressive that you can mute the volume, just watch him and barely miss a beat. This should be a terrific opportunity. I’d love to learn more about his character, but no matter what, count me in.

Must see! Ben would definitely rock this from what’s been released so far. Time for that role and vehicle to really take things to the next level and show his A game in a big way. This I’d watch every week, appointment TV. It would also open doors for him. Win-win.

    Any more updates?

Really hope that Ben gets to do this. It almost looks like it was made for him, or his character was, after reading more from the Futon Critic and a few other sources. Way past time for a really good lead role for Ben and another full season series, plus it would pave the way to more things. About time for a nice guy to finish first. When’s the word?

Wishing Ben every success. He’s one of my favorite actors with a rare ability to bring characters to life and make ordinary moments extraordinary. There aren’t many actors that I’d get hooked on a TV show for, but he tops the list. Love some of his indie films, especially the war commentary Johnny Got his Gun, which is being used in our area high schools right now. He’s got that indefinable “it” combination of qualities and seems like a really quietly hardworking, decent guy with his priorities all in order, trying to make a difference in the world without fanfare. I’m not that familiar with Mandy Moore, but I’m sure that they’ll have great chemistry. I hope this is a go for the coming fall season. I’ll be waiting.

Sounds like a good role and show for Ben. Hope he gets to work it. Definitely looking forward to seeing him in something new with lots of screen time and a great character to tackle. The more issues, the better.

Looks good! I’ve been hoping Ben would get another good role, especially a lead. He’s one of the most underrated actors and way too underutilized in SouthLAnd. Bring it on.
