Jamie Campbell Bower: 'Selfish Giant' London Screening!

Jamie Campbell Bower attends a screening of The Selfish Giant on Thursday (October 24) at BT Tower in London, England.

The 24-year-old actor chatted with Metro at the screening about the increasing pressure for men to be sexy.

“I think, possibly within the next ten years, we’re going to hear a lot more men talking about (the pressure to look good),” Jamie said. “The last movie I did, The Mortal Instruments, when I got the role I was out of shape and I had to get in shape. Putting it that way makes it sound simple, well it is. But with that comes self-criticism and it does get difficult.”

“Obviously there’s a pressure on men as well to look a certain way and to be big or muscular. When they’re not it’s like, ‘Oh my God Leonardo DiCaprio’s gotten fat’ and it’s like, do you know what, he’s not he’s not going to be a 17-year-old boy forever,” he added.

FYI: Jamie is wearing Burberry.

The thing is that he keeps going for roles that require the actor to be manly and buff (king Arthur, Jace Wayland). They could cast someone the complete opposite of that for these roles, but that is just not the way these characters are written and not believable to the audience at all.
How could the audience possibly believe that a skinny feminine looking guy is a masculine and physically strong warrior?

If he has a problem with working out (which he keeps saying he does) he should go for more unconventional roles like for example Johnny Depp does.

Have I already heard that on these threads?

I LOVE HIMMMM

I agree brightviolette, he’s not very attractive and he keeps whining about how hard it was to train for his ‘hot’ roles, so why does he keep going for them? He should stick to unattractive roles, it’d be better for his career and his face fits it. Mortal whatever flopped, as did Camelot. No one buys him as ‘hot’. Stick to Sweeney Todd material, it’s the only thing that’s worked for him.

This ugly idiot needs to shut up with his rich white man problems. He shouldn’t be going for these hot leading men roles if he can’t handle it. There are a million better looking and more talented actors all over the world who would work their asses off for a lead role and accept that it is part of their job and not whine about it. It’s not even like this loser had to get into incredibly ripped like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Chris Hemsworth as Thor shape. He should stick to supporting character roles anyway as he has neither, the talent, charisma nor looks for a leading man. No wonder the Mortal Instruments and that young King Arthur show totally bombed!

Why you people are so mean? He is just expressing his point of view. He is not a superficial person and he´s being very honest. Who didn’t suffer when is on a diet? Besides, in real life you don’t go and find your dream man being handsome, with a greek body, smart, funny and talented, is one thing or another. The people who is complaining about him must be a very sad and with low autoestima person because saying things like that it’s the only way they feel good.

For everyone’s information, Jamie is a talented, charming and humble actor. He gives his 110% with the things he do. He is aware of the negative criticisms he get, and he uses them to his advantage. I respect the people who commented above, but there is no need to call him names. It tells more about who you are, not about who he is. If you have watched his interviews, and have taken some steps to at least know who he really is, you would retract the negative remarks you’ve said about him.

@Lian: Except not really. I find Jamie horribly brash and immature. Always flipping the camera off, always sticking his tongue out, always cursing. It’s immature and not a quality I find attractive in people. I also don’t find him terribly talented when it comes to acting. He’s always mouth breathing when on camera, especially in Camelot. The one thing I do think he can do well is sing, going by Sweeney Todd, and I think he should stick to that. He can stay as skinny as he wants if he pursues a music career. Then he wouldn’t have to cry about his rich white boy problems anymore.
