“My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song ‘XO’ was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you,” Beyonce shared to ABC News. She added, “The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten.”

The Challenger tragically killed seven crew members when it exploded 73 seconds after liftoff from the Kennedy Space Center on January 28, 1986.

FYI: Beyonce is wearing a Harlyn top and carrying a Dsquared2 handbag.

  • ohoh

huh? I doubt very seriously that’s what she was thinking when she used that track. She was thinking about making money, writing a hit.

  • Ava

A vastly overrated woman, trying to make $ out of a tragedy. Very poor taste.

  • Michele

    Nicely written….by her PR flack.

  • Somme

“The song was recorded with the intention of helping to heal those who lost loved ones”………..I think someone has a slightly inflated sense of their own importance.

  • Classless

Has this bloody woman no decency? she feels that she is above everyone, instead of apologising and correcting it, she makes up some lame reason saying it is a tribute. If it was a tribute, then she would have contacted the families before, to make sure she would not offend.

  • Nick

@clueless…. Everyone knows Beyonce isn’t the brightest lightbulb, she doesn’t even know what NASA stands for , she probably thinks it’s a rap group.

  • Eva

Always partying? More like having suckups and sycophants constantly there to kiss your ring. Beyonce’s power is fading. Money can push a star so long and so far. When you resort to using a situation where people died to sell your songs, you have nothing to say. My cents.

  • Peggy

All u prejudice white people on this blog only bash the black entertainers because you all are jealous that’s all I have to say

  • Bella

Peggy, race has nothing to do with this. I found Beyonce’s choice here to be quite distasteful and opportunistic, and I am far from white. I am human, first and always.

  • Tiana

@Peggy: Yes they always shitting there bad ignorant ass opinions on Beyonce like literally no one wouldn’t even known about this if the white winged conservatives didn’t say anything about it I sure didn’t know nothing about space shuttle thing but my heart goes out to the family who lost there love one’s though.

  • Ugh

@Peggy: @Tiana: Can you two please stfu!? You are an embarrassment to black people such as myself!
Beyonce is an ignorant hoodrat and her drug dealer misogynist husband is the same! Dumb as rocks. Remember when Jay Z tried to sell those tshirts at occupy wallstreet.
How in the world can you worship these morons who have done nothing for the black community! I dare say they are a part of the destruction but you’ll probably blame “whitey” for that too.

  • Ugh

@Tiana: “I sure didn’t know…” you say that like you’re proud of your ignorance. Have some damn pride and educate yourself ffs.

  • TobiasMerriweather

@Somme: We’re talking about something that took place in the 80′s. So she used a sample of dialogue. How many people remember let alone were alive when this terrible event took place? Won’t even rant further about who truly were, was and are still effected by this outside of family members and those folks who happened to be in or around CC in 86? Me? Was alive in 86 but was much much too young to have it in my collective radar. After typing this whinge will place it back in the place that’s reserved for things that happened way back then…

  • Ugh

I wish I could say I am surprised…but seeing how dumb Beyonce is, I sadly am not.
Remember this is the woman who can barely speak and don’t you dare blame it on a Houston accent. She sounds dumb period. I cringe and always feel embarrassed whenever I hear her talk.
She sounds like a damn hoodrat hick.
And let’s not even mention her former drug dealer husband who calls black women B’s and H’s and have made lots of $$ degrading black women….Remember the tshirts he tried to sell during occupy wall street!? These two dumb buffoons are an embarrassment to life.

  • Betty

She and apparently also her fans are not very smart.

  • ….

    @Ugh:
    You’re not black

    POSER

  • Peggy

It just amazes me how so many is hating on bey her music rocks and she has talent and she smart and she is successful black woman doing her thing

  • yeah

Having an accent doesn’t make you stupid. Everyone has one. She isn’t the first artist to sample something from something tragic that happened and made it into something like a “memoir”. Give the woman a break. She apologized, shut up about it. People took stuff from 9/11 and made a memoir song about it does it make them bad artists or bad people? No. Shut up.

  • Peggy

My heart goes out as well but they are only a big thing out of it because it’s a black female and she has a major impact on the music industry and I think that is so unfair

  • Anne

@Tobias. Slavery took place a 150 years ago, that doesn’t mean a person doesn’t show respect for the subject matter in the media …..she’s using a national tragedy to sell a stupid song, besides the fact the family of the members who died have objected to her commercial use of the recording … your rationalization for her is obscene . Everyone knows that Beyonce and her thug husband are classless people who are barely literate but is there no end to their money grubbing ways…. And I guess @ Peggy white people aren’t racist when their buying her music and tickets to her concerts, people like you are pathetic, cause it ani’t black people keeping her is her fur coats and real hair wigs.

  • Peggy

Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I am sure she doesn’t care about what her haters have to say because she is a Grown woman and she can do whatever she wants and she is laughing right to the bank

  • Peggy

Anne this does not have nothing to do with slavery they are messing with her because she is a black artist period

  • Peggy

And Anne her husband is not a thug my dear he is a smart businessman and always make Forbes list every year so felt your facts correct

  • Nick

If the proceeds of the song went to the families or an education fund etc, her excuse would be acceptable. Essentially she is profiting from death. Disgusting.

  • Peggy

@Ugh: you need to stfu you sound like u would be an embarrassment yourself because you’re just a hater

  • Peggy

@Nick: she apologized people make mistakes and the media is turning this into a circus and give her chance she might even do that

  • Sam

What a offensive airhead, we all know Beyonce can barely string two words together, but really doesn’t she have management for this, it’s not like she wouldn’t know that using the recordings of 911 in a silly song would be wrong .

  • Mike

Shock instead of real talent, what next? More stripper clothes? Please retire and enjoy your money, quietly.

  • Pat

Here is a thought, instead of using someone else`s tragedy, why doesnt Beyonce use a tragic event from her own life to “help heal those who have lost loved ones” such as the 911 call made when her husband`s nephew was sadly killed in a car crash…..thought not.

  • Betty

    @Peggy

Funny you are defending an artist who wants to appear as white as possible.

  • Avery

Deluded egomaniac, maybe Beyonce should spend less time taking pictures of herself and instead try to get her education level pass that of a 5th grader. Inarticulate and uneducated moron, her ugly husband included.

  • Theresa

This is the same person who lip synced the national anthem at a President’s inauguration in front do the whole country , is there anything this shameless women wouldn’t do.

  • Nikki

Wow, why would they use that on the track? Why would they think that was a good choice? How insensitive. I like Beyonce even less now. Tasteless.

  • Oh Yeah!!!

@Peggy: These people have Jealousy problems! Bey is riding high so they can fret cause Rih could Never even sell a 1/4 of the albums Bey is selling!

  • @Peggy

    @Peggy:

As Pat pointed out “why doesn’t Beyonce use a tragic event from her own life to “help heal those who have lost loved ones” such as the 911 call made when her husband`s nephew was sadly killed in a car crash…..thought not.”

  • @Oh Yeah!

So, it is about sales and money…..’ Rih could Never even sell a 1/4 of the albums Bey is selling!”

No one brought up Rihanna but focused on the tragedy of the event, (affecting family, friends and the nation as a whole) which seems to have went of your head like your idol (Bey).

The thought of using a tragedy from her or families life, as Pat pointed out – ” 911 call made when her husband`s nephew was sadly killed in a car crash”, didn’t enter her head, but using someone else’s or the nation’s tragedy to make money is acceptable. What’s the difference if she wanted to “remind us” unexpected things happen and “help those who have lost loved ones” to heal?

Because this is her “after-excuse” – all PR and with little sincerity. More embarrassment.

People can turn on the news and be reminded that “unexpected things happen” everyday. JJ just posted an end of year “who we lost” that included many stars who “unexpectedly” died – I.e, Paul Walker.

Her excuse is weak and support of such excuse is sad.

  • Oh Yeah is a bitter Beyhive

@Oh Yeah!!!: OMG you bring Rihanna up and trahs her on every post you comment. Nobody is talking about Rihanna. You’re such a bitter Rihanna hater it isnt even funny anymore. It was tasteless from Beyonce to sample it and everybody can see it.

  • Jojo

I can still remember the moment in high school when the Principal announced over the loudspeaker that the Challenger was destroyed and everyone was killed, my heart sank. To sample this for a money grubbing attempt at a hot song is reprehensible.

  • ummmmm…….

    @Anne:

I personally don’t even give a damn about the recording at the beginning, I love the song itself. It isn’t that big of a deal, she didn’t use it in a disrespectful manner but everyone is entitled to their opinion. At the end of the day Beyonce will probably never even see these comments as she is too busy living her wonderful life with her beautiful family. Get a life of your own. It’s not that serious.
