“I loved Cate Blanchett’s performance as an unhinged woman who talks to herself after a few martinis. Finally, a character I can relate to!” Bette tweeted earlier in the day.

This was the BEST Oscar show EVER. Bette Midler was the icing on the cake. Such grace and beauty with the voice of an angel. Ellen made you want to keep watching to see what she was going to do next. The ladies finally realized that they did not need to show all their skin to be impressive. The men cleaned up well. It made you think that the actors cared about being there and cared that we saw them at their best. I appreciate that. America has the best actors in the world, its time they started acting like they believe it as much as we believe in them to share their lives with us and entertain us in our homes. Thank you for a very entertaining evening.

As a performer myself, I’ve always had great respect for Bette because of how emotionally generous she is. I can’t really think of another singer who can express gratitude in song the way she can. When her song began and she started to walk onstage, I could feel it in the room of people I was in what she meant to them before she even opened her mouth. That’s the lady that makes us really feel something.

It’s a very unique ability she possesses to move in on people’s emotions and to make them feel glad, comforted, and thankful even in times of grief, sorrow, and great loss.

Everybody knows her big 3 songs. I hope her Oscar appearance brings her a new audience and new attention to some of her vastly underrated songs like “Millworker”, “Lullaby In Blue”, “To Deserve You”, “Every Road Leads Back To You”, and “To Comfort You”, which are among my favorites.
