Miley Cyrus Has Homeless Man Accept Her VMA - Watch Video

Miley Cyrus won the award for Video of the Year at the at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, but she did something special for her acceptance speech to raise awareness for homeless people.

The 21-year-old singer had a homeless man go on stage to accept the award she won for her “Wrecking Ball” video.

“All over this city I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms. I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in life,” the man said. “Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought you here tonight. Los Angeles, entertainment capitol, has the largest percentage of homeless youth in America. The music industry will make over $7 billion this year and outside these doors are 54,000 who have no place to call home. If you want to make a powerful change in the world right now, please join us by going to Miley‘s Facebook page. A dream you dream alone is only a dream, but a dream you dream together is reality.”

I actually have mad respect for Miley Cyrus. I don’t care if you think it is just for publicity, she make other realize about the life of those who are less fortunate.

  • Avery

Oh please it was so lame and try hard.

  • jake

    she’s so sweet

  • Elisa

Ridiculously handsome homeless guy jajaja look is miley trying to be a caring person sorry but i dont buy it

  • hot air balloon

@Avery: oh please can you do a quarter of a quarter of a percent of what she did?

  • hot air balloon

@Elisa: homeless people have to be ugly? LMAO look around dumbass.

  • oh boy

Time for an image change. No better place to start than the venue in which you earned your ho image.

  • go go

Did she invite him to stay in her multi-million dollar mansion? Prob not. So easy to show fake concern when you’re life is perfect.

  • nemo

@Elisa: ditto. she’s so fake, and this is just another PR move.

  • ya i said it

She better give this kid some money!

  • Best mother ever

I was not and still not a Miley fan but this is commendable. Good job Miley!

  • freya

Wow how low can Miley go. Now she’s using a homeless man as a publicity stunt.

  • lol

    i really don’t believe her…

  • Leah

Too bad that young man’s message went right over the heads of the majority of those vapid individuals in attendance.

  • Domino

That guy is homeless?! He can come live with me. :3

  • Leah

You all better shut up and keep calm! I don’t like her too much, but this really made me respect her at least a bit! Like even if it was all fake and for publicity, she did it, so what? You can’t change it and just look, she won one of the most important award of this night and instead of breaking down, going there and giving “thankful” speech, she decided to send there some homeless guy(even if he wasn’t homeless, just random guy) and let him talk about this problem of youths in USA…so shut up, because this is really problem and it’s good that actually they warm us and use just this chance to do it, because i bet most of you would run there, fake crying and repeating thanks to family, fans and friends and didn’t mind about real problems, yes maybe this all was fake and for publicity, but she just did it…

Fake or not, this will bring awareness to homeless teens. I’m definetly not a teen, but does anybody remember Marlon Brando won and award and a really beautiful American Indian dressed up in “costume” ?(sorry if I’m policically incorect, as I’m a senior). Here’s part of the article.

I cSacheen Littlefeather (born Marie Louise Cruz,[1] November 14, 1946) is an American Indian civil rights activist. She is best known for presenting a speech on behalf of actor Marlon Brando, for his performance in The Godfather, when he boycotted the 45th Academy Awards ceremony on March 27, 1973, in protest of the treatment of Native Americans by the film industry. She wore an Apache dress on the occasion.
Marlon Brando became involved with the American Indian Movement (AIM) in the early 1970s. In 1973, he decided to make a statement about the Wounded Knee incident and contacted AIM about providing a person to accept the Oscar for him. Dennis Banks and Russell Means picked Sacheen Littlefeather.[citation needed]

She represented Brando and his boycott of the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal as Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972), as a way to protest the ongoing siege at Wounded Knee and Hollywood’s and television’s misrepresentation of American Indians. Brando had written a 15-page speech for Littlefeather to give at the ceremony, but when the producer met her backstage he threatened to physically remove her or have her arrested if she spoke on stage for more than 60 seconds.[5] Her on-stage comments were therefore improvised. She then went backstage and read the entire speech to the press. In his autobiography My Word Is My Bond, Roger Moore (who presented the award and had recently been announced as the new James Bond, Agent 007) claims he took the Oscar home with him and kept it in his possession until it was collected by an armed guard sent by the Academy.

The incident provoked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to rule out future proxy acceptance of the Academy Awards

That was 42 years ago and it was really shocking at the time.
Just wanted to give everybody a blast from the past.
I was repulsed by Miley last year, but she has got a good voice. She had nowhere to go but up from that gig so I really liked what she did.

  • lolpp

well id rather see her do stuff like this than playing with herself onstage

  • juju

FYI Jared editing team, he was homeless. Your title sounds so inhuman.

  • Gia

I don’t care about her but it’s a sad truth, many teens go to LA to find fame but all they find is no place to sleep, strangers molesting them and spiral into drug abuse as a way to cope. Many have died to be where Miley and others are when they should have other options. Why is college so expensive? Why are so many kids failing to get a high school degree? Why are there so few job opportunities for young people and why do the ones that exist have so low wages that they barely cover rent?

  • Max Savage

Hmm, very confused here if this really IS genuine :/

Dont get me wrong, I believe that maybe she might have sympathetically lended out a momentary voice to the world to explain the awareness of homeless people and children in america, that I respect.
What bothers me still is the possibly hidden “publicity” side of this, why not name the legitimate organization or website that supports awareness of the homeless instead of telling us to go direct ourselves to her facebook?
Also, giving his speech by reading out from the cards doesn’t make it look or sound like he meant it or not, he could have been put up to it.
Either way, whatever it was I suppose I finally do have some small margin amount of respect for her as a person for caring at least.

  • Really

You’ve got to be shitting me. I think she was a better actress on Hannah Montana. This was a publicity stunt and an attempt to make Miley seem like something more than a Purdue chicken shaking her ass.

  • Diedre

Wow, using a homeless person as a prop is low, even for Smelly.

  • Diedre

@Leah: See, Leah, this is how a comment section works: people get to express their opinions on the article. They don’t have to all agree and they certainly don’t have to, “…shut up and keep calm”.
You go right ahead and worship the diseased non-talent that is Smelly Virus, but those of us with a brain will continue to be aware that she will literally pull anything to gain attention. People with no talent have to do that to remain relevant for another 5 minutes.
Tell you what, how about we check up on this poor guy in two months? I’m willing to bet Smelly will be nowhere around and he’ll still be on the streets.
She’s a drugged out sham, sweetie. You can put lipstick on her all you want, but you’ll never make this pig into anything worthwhile.

  • Karl

Miley, you are a shamelessly, disgusting, shallow and empty, cynical BITCH. To exploit this young man’s plight in order to USE HIM to try to refurbish your “Slut” image is beneath “low”–truly, only YOU could sink to below “yourself”! A slut with a heart of gold; hmm, where have we seen that before? Oh yeah, just every other cheap B movie running late night on some small cable station. You’re a pathetic caricature, and a disgusting, self-centered human being.

  • Lola

    @ann:

Thank you for the information about Marlon B. I did not know that at all, interesting.

    @Board:
I did not see the VMA’s. I haven’t watched it in over a decade, it is of no interest to me. Now I take it this is the site:
    http://myfriendsplace.org/

I am not defending her, I am not a fan. But with the internet it is fairly easy to see if a charity is or not real and/or valid.

  • lara

so she is trying to pull ” marlon brando” can she be more lame and seek for attention
    lol

  • Lola

PS. If people can bathed themselves in water and ice and posted on the internet, why can’t she do this? I understand it is suspect, but if it is a cause she can i.d with or care for, why not bring attention to it? Because it could be publicity for her? Sure, it could, but make be it will turn out to be more for someone that is just finding out about the charity.

  • Grow up

Total pr to clean up her image

  • bart

Are you kidding me on this. That was so FAKE. She just wants more attention than anyone less Always has always will.

  • Danny

    there’s also blood donations !

  • simply

People will hate her if she does something like this and they will hate on her if she doesn’t. Not a Miley fan, but I commend her.

  • olive

Hmm..hmm…so she brought him like a stray puppy? Good intention but at the VMA? That’s not even a serious award show. The real question is : what will she do next for this cause? Probably nothing. She might have forgotten about him 2 hours later to go get high at after parties.

  • andrea

Much better than last years performance by her. Kudos to you this year Miley!

  • Jamie

If this were actually genuine, I’d have some respect for her. But it’s so clearly a publicity stunt and damage control to make people forget about her deplorable behavior at last year’s VMA’s that I just can’t. Yeah it brings attention to the issue, but she’s not doing this from her heart. She needs to do a lot more and it needs to come from her heart, not from a need to repair her image before she gets back in people’s graces. This wasn’t a selfless act, it’s all about her image. The fact they kept panning to her fake crying face is even more proof of that. She doesn’t have my respect yet. There are plenty of other celebrities who have brought attention to the issue of homelessness (Robin Williams, Paul Walker, etc.) without using it as a publicity stunt.

  • Jamie

@31, the difference is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is legitimate. And Miley still managed to screw that up when she did it as well, clearly not understanding why it’s an ice bucket (bc those with ALS lose the ability to feel cold), so in another desperate attention seeking move she uses rice proving she doesn’t even understand the purpose behind the challenge.

  • Plumo

What a fake. Smelly is scum and dressing up some poor homeless dude to accept an award while she sits in the spotlight with fake tears won’t change that.

  • Plumo

@Best mother ever: Best Mom Ever- Hope you aren’t this stupid when it comes to your kids. What are they pulling over on you if you fell for Miley’s stunt?

  • Ashley

If you say this is all for ‘publicity’ or she’s ‘fake’ please think again. You must be completely oblivious to all her other efforts in the past to raise awareness and stand up for PETA and the LGBT community. I have mad respect for her. A few raunchy performances do not define who she is as a person. I believe she’s a good person at heart. Cut her some slack.

  • Andie

I don’t care what some people say (jealous enough)… What Miley did was so touching, so amazing and she opened the eyes of a lot people! And for whoever says that she did this for publicity then they need to STFU. First Miley always did such things, without wanting to show off! And secondly, if she didn’t do it, we wouldn’t know how we are able to help! And yes I am going to help! And I hope a lot of people haters or not, are going to do it… it has to do with humanity. Let’s leave behind even for a while the hate that is in ours hearts! It won’t hurt..
Always respected that girl, but now even more!

  • Tora

Homeless teens has increased as the number of soup kitchens, homelss shelters/free rent, has increased. many homeless kids are not from abusive homes but like the life of lving on the street – they make friends their. A documentary done in Toronto revealed that after a month many homeless kids don’t want off the streets because they have found a family there.

The problem is more than a need for shelter and Miley is just a using FAKE.

  • Edwin Knight

The homeless guy jut happens to be a wanted man. I believe in Oregon, I think that goes along ways toward explaining his situation !

  • http://@lhatchaa Lozzie

She does something bad she gets shit she does something good (infact amazingly awesome) she gets shit. can she do anything right? i dont care HOW it happens she has now raised millions for a very worthy cause HOW is that a bad thing at all? and cute Jesse got to go to one of the best concerts of his life? she couldve said the speech herself and had the same reaction…. get a grip people look at the positives
