Adam Lambert Isn't Throwing Shade at Pop Stars Attracting Gay Fans

Adam Lambert flashes a nice smile while exiting celeb hotspot Chateau Marmont on Friday (November 14) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 32-year-old entertainer was seen chatting with Rose McGowan while waiting for his car at valet.

“Anyone find it interesting how straight male Pop stars r pandering to gay audiences lately!? Should we be flattered? Progress or strategy?” Adam recently tweeted.

He clarified, “No shade. I just wanna hear about music! Not be teased on weather someone MIGHT be bi curious or gay or straight. Who cares?! Lol.”

Why is it that when it comes to politics you have to pander to the Latino, gay, this, that etc community. Everyone wants you to pander to them. “What are you going to do for me? I’m important, if you want my vote you have to tell me and everyone else what you are going to do for me in return.” Who cares if pop stars pander to gay fans even if it is just for strategy or record sales. If the people who actually influence our society are encouraged to do it should it matter if anyone else does it?

  • JPinNC

Wasn’t he doing the same thing in reverse? Glass houses..

  • BooBoo

You completely twisted the intention of his tweet! Adam Lambert is as real as it gets, lovely, talented, relative celeb. But you got the hits, so who’s really pandering, Jared?

  • Jane

Um no. He has never “pandered” to anyone, in fact he’s fiercely determined to be himself regardless of what people think – that’s why he’s considered “controversial” and his career often suffers as a result. And anyway. He’s not saying its WRONG. He was asking his fans to join in a discussion of whether it’s a cynical strategy OR a positive sign of PROGRESS. Why is everyone so oblivious to the concept of DISCUSSION/DEBATE and instead so all fired keen to see every question as an attack on someone.

  • Jane

Why bring in Adam’s tweets so randomly/irrelevantly, with no context or explanation? No doubt many will happily jump on the attack Adam band wagon without having a clue what actually went on or even reading the actual discussion. This is what has already happened at other sites. Perhaps Adam should be asking his followers what they think about the media “pandering” to bigots, haters and bullies to get hits to their articles. Although I do give you guys credit for not twisting his words into an outrageously negative headline like certain gay sites have done. Shame Adam constantly faces viciousness from the gay community as much, if not more so, than from mainstream society. I often wonder how he manages to stay so positive.

well it is true that straight musicians have been doing that lately. like Nick Jonas, Calvin Harris, etc. but i think he was just saying he doesn’t get why people are trying to cater to that specific group over all others

  • ohbabs

this observation by adam is lame. especially considering his supposedly “post-gay” existence. these straight boys are recognizing what their fans want and are providing it. Adam was stuck “pandering” to middle aged straight females. He knew what they wanted and he gave it to them. It’s all about entertainment. Right, Adam?
Are businesses that display rainbow flags pandering to gays? No they are expanding their market. It is also about the money…………..

  • Aden9791 .

Frankly I want to see Eminem, Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and other male pop/rap male artists to perform at gay clubs. Progress and faster equal rights for lgbt.

  • TLKC

Adam didn’t start the gay-baiting conversation. It’s been going on for a while and Joe Jonas has been responding to it. Adam comented on it and asked a question.

It is a conversation worth having. Do men, straight or gay, want to see their nude bodies used as bait to sell stuff the way women’s bodies have been used for decades? Not just pecs and the low slung pants anymore…. male artists are going to be subjected to the same pressures to expose themselves as female artists are.

The imagery in mainstream advertising is becoming more frank. Gay men, who share women’s appreciation of male bodies, understand the dynamic of sexual objectification much better than straight men do at the moment because they share the “female gaze” (albeit a qualitatively different version of it). It will take straight men a decade to fully catch on to the implications of what is happening: how it makes them feel and how it affects young men’s self-image etc.

As a pop star, Adam is even more-attuned to the implications of this change. If you follow Adam’s fandom online, it’s a place that many would like him to go – and, imho, he’s not interested.

Women? They are loving it. The “male gaze” is being challenged by the female gaze.

BTW, Adam Lambert doesn’t have a post-gay existence. You can only have that in a post-gay world. We aren’t there yet and he has said as much many, many times.

  • Gina

Nick Jonas and Harry Styles are the “straight” pop stars he is referring to. For a gay guy Adam sure has terrible gaydar. These boys are as gay as the day is long. Its more obvious in the case of Harry Styles.

  • JPinNC

    uh… ok.
