'Sons of Anarchy' Series Finale Spoilers: Did Jax Live or Die?

The time has come and we finally know the fate of Charlie Hunnam‘s character Jax Teller as the series finale of the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy is now over.

The fate of the 34-year-old actor’s character was spoiled last week when a page in a Sons of Anarchy companion book was posted online after the book was accidentally released early in some stores.

Make sure to check out our post featuring all of Charlie‘s hottest moments on the show, both shirtless and nude. There were tons of them to look through!

SPOILER ALERT – DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!

Jax killed another Sons of Anarchy charter president, which calls for a Mayhem vote (the members of your own charter vote if you should be killed). The rest of the charter presidents said if Jax doesn’t die, it looks bad on the whole organization. Jax accepts his fate and tells his charter to vote for him to die.

The charter members vote unanimously for Jax to meet Mr. Mayhem, but a fight is faked so that he can make an escape. Ultimately, Jax kills himself by driving his motorcycle into an oncoming truck.

Even though he became (or grew into) a truly awful person, it was a beautiful ending for his character. Charlie Hunnam played the character so peacefully in the last scene, it wrapped everything up very nicely.

At this point, it was obvious that Jax was going to die. It was just the matter of how, and I thought the how was beautiful and poignant. In the end, extreme love and loyalty to both his club and family and the tensions that created was Jax’s downfall. Yet, in his death he exemplified why this love was also what made him a hero. That Shakespeare quote in the end was the perfect ending. It summed up the show and Jax perfectly and poignantly. “Doubt thou the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move, Doubt truth to be a liar, But never doubt I love.” This show made me question many things, but Jax’s love was made abundantly clear.

Tara should never have died. She was the only redeeming person in his life. Tbh, every episode that came before the finale was better than the finale. But, the saddest death was Tara.

Sutter always said he based the series off of hamlet. We all know how that goes.

You missed a big part by not mentioning he was riding his fathers bike while he died. He went down like his old man on the same bike

Perhaps Tara’s death proves that nothing good can be allowed to exist for long in their world of criminality and violence. Weeds tend to choke out and consume a garden don’t they? How about Opie’s wife? What about Tig’s daughter? So much of this mimics real life.

As the “only redeeming person in his life” maybe Jax was forced to consider that the redeeming lives of his children wouldn’t mean anything later either.

    The finale was fine.

i think the entire SOA fandom knew Jax was gonna die… I mean there was no other option really. But that wasnt the way I envisioned it, sure it was his way and he got to ride one last time and sure he didnt wanna burden his death and put it in the hands of his brothers…. but I honestly thought that chibs was gonna be the one to do it. But Im glad at the end of the day he got to go his own way….the real question is… what the hell am I supposed to do on tuesdays now without SOA?!

A lot like the suicide in Knightriders (cult biker film from 30 years ago). The circumstances were kind of the opposite though.

MISTAKES WERE MADE!!! Poor Jax… Ultimately, this series show how good intentions can go so terribly wrong.
