Zayn Malik Officially Leaving One Direction - Read the Statement!

Zayn Malik has decided to part ways with One Direction.

The 22-year-old singer officially announced the news on the group’s Facebook page.

“After five incredible years Zayn Malik has decided to leave One Direction. Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue as a four-piece and look forward to the forthcoming concerts of their world tour and recording their fifth album, due to be released later this year,” the band wrote.

Zayn said, “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”

We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”

Simon Cowell said, “I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction. Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond – and immensely proud – of him. I have seen him grow in confidence and I am truly sorry to see him leave. As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band.”

Heroin is a helluva drug. Going to cost him millions.

  • peer988 .

    OMG. why???

  • Living in a box

And this is how downfall begins….Hope no one will blames Perrie Edward and call her the new Yoko..

  • nardy

Im not a a fan and im not really familiar with their gossip either .. but why did he leave? You make it seem like it was bc of drug usage???..

  • gradybridges

It is because of drugs. He misses concerts & appearances. The Today Show even called him out on it and the side stepped an answer. You think he’d leave due to stress? What stress?

  • dalovelee

This is a dumb kid. He’s making millions in a boy band that eventually will fade into oblivion. He’s getting hot girls BECAUSE he’s in a boy band. Yet he wants to go back to be normal. As if any shallow hot girls will want to hang around him as a normal guy. In fact after he leaves this band his phone will dry up. No perks of 5 star hotels and any pick of what he wants.

  • Raspitou

Poor guy….talk about lack of judgment. He made a major life decision when he was feeling emotionally fragile…and the consequences will not be good.

It’s like making a big decision when any of us is upset or angry. There’s the romanticized liberation of saying, “I quit!”, then you sit at home and realize you can’t pay bills.

Granted, Zayn is loaded….but five years down the line, the other boys will have raked in millions more without him, and he’ll be a has-been without the income stream he is accustomed to. He will have spent a lot of his money by then. I mean, hasn’t he ever seen an episode of ‘Behind the Music’? Boy banders are like Olympians or football (soccer) players….they have to make the big cash early on in their lives that will get them through retirement, because once they age it’s very unlikely they’ll come anywhere close to that level of acclaim or money ever again. Sure, they try to release solo efforts to no avail….I mean, look at JC Chasez….look at the kids from New Kids on the Block…look at the Backstreet Boys. I’m sure they still get some revenue streams since they’re famous, but it’s never anywhere close. No one cares anymore – it’s a rule of the cosmos that boybands have a limited shelf life. The only exception has been Justin Timberlake, but Zayn has nowhere near the star power.

There’s something to be said about professionalism – true pros have crises too…they break up, have friends and relatives die, addictions, etc. Maybe they need a few days or weeks off, but they get back on the horse. Malik just killed his cash cow, and career…over a girl he’s dating at 22? They’ll probably break up anyway in some time, after he’s no longer the lionized boy band member.

In a few years, Zayn will have no career propects, or much more limited ones. He reacted emotionally because he felt lovesick after getting caught cheating and made his life much worse. Stress? Sure, there’s stress in being a pop star, but that’s nothing compared to the stress of being a working stiff…at least you have access to anything you want in the world, VIP treatment anywhere in the globe, tons of money, a creative outlet to make music with the top producers and musicians in the world, and women throwing themselves at your feet.

Maybe Zayn really is THAT dumb, but a scenario that makes more sense to me is that….he got thrown out, due to his addictions, lack of professionalism, bad behavior, etc, and they gave him a graceful way out. I don’t know…

    No take-backs!

  • MollyBD

How is he going to be able to afford his drugs now? I realize he will still have money coming in from the music they’ve already done, but no future monies. He can’t go out on his own because he has the weakest voice in the group. The poor guy should have just gone into rehab for “stress” and taken some time off. It’s his decision, but I think he will regret this drastic move. Unless, like someone said, he was asked to leave, and this is the PR way of handling it.

Hate to believe the fact. Hope this Zayn guy makes more music!

  • Raspitou

Defensive much? I wrote as much as I pleased…if it doesn’t please you to read it all, don’t. That’s ok.

Maybe he’ll make wise investments, but that’s certainly not the norm with former boy band stars…and certainly not for ones who are especially emotional and have rumored drug habits. I hope that’s not the case.

Now take your own advice and run along now…

  • Joolz

Drugs & a cheating scandal. The media says he cheated on his fiancee Perrie and he just couldn’t handle it so he’s leaving…

  • Jenny from the flop

One direction is finally coming to an end!! Hallelujah! This was how spice girls started to clash – once ginger left they started to flop and broke up.

Good for this dude for leaving!

  • eternalozzie

1: he is set for life financially … 2: after the breakdowns and all the sickness over the last 2 years his health depends on him slowing down his lifestyle … he’s always had anxiety issues … 3: people don’t realize what prisoners people like this are … they are owned by their record company … have ZERO freedom to do normal things

he made the right choice to take care of himself … “fading into oblivion” will be the healthiest thing that can happen to him.

  • Jimmy

    Why i don’t give a damn?

  • eternalozzie

almost nothing you typed in your essay is even relevant … his health really depends on him slowing down his lifestyle … people without anxiety issues can’t understand what it’s like … it’s got to be a million times worse being in the public spotlight … this decision probably just saved his life.

  • Malu Swartjes

I am sad, because they will never be the same again.. But its his decision and if this makes him happier, we should all support that.

He is a laiar. some days ago it was said by the news he leaft One D tour due to depression, then other media reprots said he had been having soem relationship issues and now he sais he want to live like a normal 22 yrd old guy. out of the spotlight. I mean that is good sure but why then what hte media reports said in the past weeks are a totally different reason.
I mean maybe he is giving this reason to hide the real reason why he is leaving, cause what he said to the media sounds normal and people will buy it and leave him alone rather than saying something like Im leaving beause I have an addiciton problem or relationship issues that need to be dealt away from all the media and press” and im a whimp.

  • Malu Swartjes

Why post that useless comment when u dont give a dam? :P

  • Lisa

    Why waste your time?

  • Lisa

    if he feels this best

  • Lisa

I just hope their fans don’t do anything stupid

  • Lisa

    Like self harm

  • Lisa

I’m not even a fan but if you aren’t cut out for that life style then you leave. that seems to be case here

  • Neesh

chill. I think his health is more important. He’s been sick alot lately and with them being on tour non stop (which btw I think it needs to calm down a bit – they all look like they need a break) and dropping albums and all the promoting he’s barely had any time to take of his self. So, him leaving (although sad) was the best choice for him.

He will have money but not sure if he won’t cope with more drugs with many of free times in his life.
Many guys reached their career peak after thirty fourty something, but Zayn already reached his peak, how would his fragile mental health will cope with that?

  • Gay Maddox

Surely someone, one of their managers, another celebrity, SOMEONE has explained to this young man that leaving the band will not do one thing to get him the private time he seems to need. He will be hounded for a very long time every time he sticks his head outside.

  • Gay Maddox

You seem to think the only career he might have is in music. He’s still very young, not even old enough yet to have completed an undergraduate degree, not to mention a masters. He has plenty of time to change the course of his life and his career.

  • Gay Maddox

How does a bunch of media articles make him a liar? Do you think he wrote them? The saddest thing about it is that he truly is so young and he is going to be disappointed when he finds out he won’t have that much needed privacy even after leaving the band. Fans and reporters will hound him for a long time until they finally forget about him and leave him alone to live his life as he chooses.

  • Gay Maddox

Oh, and as we all know, if the media says it, then it simply must be true.

  • bijesh

  • Mylee

Sure, I’m sad, but, whoever performs, 1D is gonna be fun to watch, so I can’t wait to see them on tour
