Ben Affleck Causes PBS to Push Back 'Finding Your Roots'

PBS is delaying the third season of its show Finding Your Roots after an internal review determined that Ben Affleck improperly influenced the show to leave out facts about his ancestors owning slaves.

The review states that the series’ co-producers “violated PBS standards by failing to shield the creative and editorial process from improper influence, and by failing to inform PBS or WNET of Mr. Affleck‘s efforts to affect program content.”

Back in April, it was reported that Ben asked the show to edit the episode, which aired in October 2014.

“PBS will also withdraw episode #204 from all forms of distribution including on-air, digital platforms and home video,” PBS said.

Soon after, Ben wrote a lengthy post on Facebook apologizing for his actions.

“I didn’t want any television show about my family to include a guy who owned slaves,” he wrote. “I was embarrassed. The very thought left a bad taste in my mouth. I regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story.”

Come on Ben, we all are related to some form of bad history due to our ancestors. It could be an family member was a slave, they owned a slave, they were in concentration camps, were Nazis, were pirates, were Southern racist, and so on. I don’t know a nationality who don’t have something in their history that they are ashamed of but shouldn’t be because it was then, not now. Nothing you can do to change it, it was your ancestors not you.

To blame this on Affleck is ridiculous. You might not agree with Ben Affleck’s decision to ask him to not include in his program the part of the episode that revealed his slave-owing ancestors but we don’t know his motivations behind it. He already apologized and confessed that he felt-embarrassed of that part of his family’s history, something he holds no responsibility and shouldn’t be judged for. Maybe his family pressured him. Maybe it was his PR team. When you are that famous you have a duty to protect your image and although some people claim otherwise, had the truth come out, he would have probably been unfairly criticized for it because our society is full of irrational individuals who can hardly wait for an opportunity to bash celebrities. However, the point is, Affleck simply made a request, it was his right to do so and it was perfectly legal. Professor Gates is the one who conceded even though he knew it would violate his and the program’s integrity. Therefore he is the only one to blame and this headline is ridiculous.

The show is fantastic.. I enjoy watching it.. but the fact he asked to compromise the show & the fact they allowed him to compromise the show defeats the true purpose of the show.. I for one would be happy only to watch the African American celeb stories..to help connect them with their roots.

You are a disgusting human being Ben Affleck. You are a disgusting, disgusting, disgrace for a human being. Omitting history alone is a crime, denying recognition to human beings who suffered throughout that history is a crime against humanity. You’re a loathsome deceptive peice of crap. REAL History embarrasses you? Slavery is what BUILT THIS NATION – that is OUR truth. And that embarrassed you… what a sociopathic narcissistic piece of crap.

Did you seriously think you were holier than thou? I mean what ego.

Until you had pulled this you were totally not at fault. But the fact that you pulled this and put so much effort to do it – you tried to erase history. You tried to ERASE THE SLAVES – THAT is absolutely all on you.

Scumbag. Going around playing smart when he is clearly an absolute incompetent. Wonder how Howard Zinn would have digested this omitting of the PEOPLES HISTORY.

This guy shouldn’t be in charge of ANY charity or ANY type of ‘humanitarian’ work. Who knows what else he’s done or continues to do.

He’s extreme liberal tard left wing.
It’s not that surprising that he ashamed to admit that he’s related to conservative slave owned family.

This guy is an a s s`hole you can tell just by looking at him but watching him in interviews and hearing him speak his mind will fully confirm to you that he is indeed a complete a s s~hole. I am amazed how Jennifer Garner puts up with him. He is so cold with her, but I guess she does it because she wants her kids to have a wholesome family even though they have a sh i tt y father.

I commend him for being ashamed of this. We all know Ben doesn’t have a racist bone in his body. Thank God he’s not yet another narcissistic, sociopathic, psychotic racist looking to justify racism and delusions of “master race” grandeur. Thank God!!! We could use way less people like that and way more people like Ben. We’re all equal and it’s quite sad and quite bizarre that so many people, Black and White, refuse to accept and acknowledge that. Ben Affleck is a hero.
