Is Megan Boone Leaving 'The Blacklist'? Spoilers!

SPOILER ALERT – Do not continue reading if you don’t want to know what happened on The Blacklist!

There is still a month left until the season three finale of The Blacklist, but something major just happened on the show!

Megan Boone, the drama’s leading lady, was killed off in a shocking moment during Thursday night’s (April 14) episode. Her character Liz was pregnant on the series, just like she is in real life, and she died following the birth of her child.

NBC hasn’t commented on the death, but Megan‘s co-stars James Spader and Ryan Eggold have both released statements.

“I think it’s most prudent not only as just myself and what I know or don’t know for that, but also in terms of the character of Reddington: Elizabeth Keen is dead,” James told Entertainment Weekly.

“I was as shocked as I think the fans are!” Ryan told TV Line. “I have loved working with Megan, especially as we explored the complicated dynamic in Liz and Tom’s relationship. I’m incredibly curious to see how this deep cut affects Tom’s understanding of the world and what this means for the future of their daughter.”

Spoiler alert…but it wasn’t even under a cut. Its literally right there as you scroll…

Liz death was a shocking twist.Oh so Megan is pregnant in real life.

  • Isabel

Given the verbal gymnastics James attempted when answering the question, I’m guessing she’s faking her death.

  • lost_girl

she’ll have the baby in real life, get back into shape, and they’ll bring her back in some way…

  • Jamie

    I hope so.

Spoiler should be placed inside when you click on the article. JJ’s staff seems to do this a lot and it doesn’t make any sense. Why even post “spoiler alert” if you’re given it away on the front end without clicking the article.

And, given the silence (so far) by the Producers in explaining why they decided to kill Liz, I have to agree with those who believe Liz’ death (like Tom’s at the end of Season 1) is faked. Plus, without Liz “who” is the Female Lead?

  • O Manning

She must have been having a baby shark because the producers just jumped it. I loved this when it first came out. Now…it’s simply boring and repetitive.

  • Ashley Riley

I’m probably in the minority but, I squealed with joy when she died. The only thing better would have been Tom dying too! I always thought Liz (or maybe Megan?) was dry and flat. I couldn’t wait for her scenes to end. Although I’m pretty sure she’ll be back, I’m hoping to see a lot more of the team for the rest of the season.

My two cents worth not much:
They are either trying to have the “bad” guys think she is dead so she will be left alone OR she is in cajouts with someone to have Reddington believe she is dead so she can get away from him. But given how smart he is, it is most likely that he engineered it all. They are running out of story so now they resort to this old, used storyline…Also, I hope she takes more acting lessons while she’s dead, she is a ONE NOTE NANCY, no real facial expressions, no real emotions show! she drives me crazy. I have seen her in a talk show and she is very different, very ditzy and silly, child like.

Megan Boone’s character of Liz grew on me over time. She was, after all, the second most important character on the show. With that being said, I was absolutely crushed when she died and I felt Red’s pain when it happened.

Could there possibly be a way to bring her back, though? Because let’s consider the fact that the writers never brought a sense of closure between Liz and Red.

On that note, I have a feeling that Season 4 will bring some much needed answers for all of us….at least I hope so!

    I sure hope you’re right!

  • Barbara Shealy

James Spader deserves an Emmy for his performance at the end of the show last night.

  • thegreyghost

A little Megan goes along way. Perhaps the most annoying aspect is the character continuing to vacillate between I love you/ I hate you with Red. And yes, her performance can be flat, very flat.

  • Dawn Lattime

You “squealed with joy when she died”. You do know it’s just a show right?. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but without her this show is going no where fast.

  • Ashley Riley

And shows elicit reactions, correct? Why else would you watch them? I’ve thought from day one she’s a poorly written character played by a boring actress. After perusing numerous boards and discussions this weekend I see I’m not alone in that opinion. We all know she’ll be back so let me have my moment.

  • Jean Bowlan

    DITT’O!!!!

  • Jean Bowlan

….not fair to end it like that. Too much left unanswered: who was after Liz? Who and where is her mother? Is Red her father? They took Liz out w/o answering any of these things. The fans deserve “closure” too!!! I think Liz will be back….I think her death was a fake to protect her from whoever is “after” her. I hope she’ll be back and there will be answers to all the mysteries.

  • Looking Forward

To be honest, I am not a fan of this Liz. I think a good aspect would be if they changed her looks because of the possibility of further the kidnapping story. Then that would allow them to replace her with someone that actually is a better actress. This Liz was annoying.

I enjoyed the show, a lot, when it focused on Redington. Now, it’s an unappetizing gumbo with no seasoning.

  • Jerome Handy

FWIW, Liz isn’t dead. :-) But you have to pay very specific attention to the sequence of events in the episode, to understand it. :-)

  • AmericanIndependent121

I believe she is, my friend. The next episode after the most current one, which aired tonight (“Cape May”) shows pall bearers carrying a casket and also addresses the team going after “Liz’s killer.” On that note, even though her death has been possibly faked before, this time it looks more legitimate.

This could’ve been done for a couple reasons.

A.) Megan Boone is obviously pregnant in real life and is either on maternity leave or wanted a way out of the show so as to spend more time with her family.

B.) NBC is actually preparing for a spinoff to “The Blacklist” that may even see Ryan Eggold leaving too.

With that being said, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens….

  • Jerome Handy

Of course there will be pall bearers and a casket. :-) Who’s handling the body? Who SPECIFICALLY said, “I don’t want her in the morgue. Have our people make all the arrangements?” Reddington and Mr. Kaplan’s people. :-) Who saw Liz just after her daughter was born, but BEFORE the symptoms of amniotic injection, began to flourish? Mr. Kaplan. MOST importantly, who is still alive? The doctor that lost Liz. :-) Reddington made a point of confronting him, but he DIDN’T kill him…why? He’s making sure everyone believes he’s grieving. :-) And last night’s episode, proves it. :-)

  • denise maguire

We think that Mr. Kaplan has her in some kind of induced coma

  • denise maguire

Totally agree. if he doesn’t at least get nominated then it’s rigged

  • denise maguire

yes when they had her find out she was already 5 or 6 months along

  • denise maguire

her mother was the woman in the Cape May episode. I’m thinking that she was in the house when it caught fire and Red made a choice to save Liz, but couldn’t save the mom too

  • AmericanIndependent121

That could be possible. I mean, they have pretty much left her for dead before, so anything is possible at this point, right? But being that the next episode details the team going “after Liz’s killer” and showing Red visiting Liz’s gravesite after attending her funeral, complete with pall bearers carrying her casket, it does have me wondering. Can’t wait until Thursday, though!

  • Jean Bowlan

Yes, I had thought the same thing about Liz’s mother. Red visited her and carried the miniature animal to her “collection”. I just could not understand why he would keep Liz and Mom apart and lie to each about the whereabouts of the other. Who was after Liz when she died? Who hired Solomon? Was it the Russians==searching, still, for Liz’s mom and the secrets she held as a spy. Perhaps they thought Liz knew where her Mom was, or had known her and knew “her” secrets???? I don’t like that RED lied to Liz and her Mom and kept them apart. The secrets, I think, were in a flash drive sewn up in that stuffed toy that Liz cherished and carried around as a child. Either way the show is not going to be the same with Liz gone.

  • Jean Bowlan

As far as Megan Boone, I like her. I think her melancholy and flat acting goes with the character she is playing: not sure who she is, not sure about RED and who he is or where her Mother really is. All this would depress anyone and take away a smiling bubbly personality. BTW, she smiles plenty around Tom!

  • denise maguire

I hope they take some Red to the new show. Show Tom being forced to ask for help

  • denise maguire

It sounded like Red was trying to make sure the Dr had his story straight. Sounded very rehearsed

  • denise maguire

Maybe for the safety of both of them? If her mom is a Russian spy, they can use Liz to get information from her.

  • denise maguire

Her mom may really be dead.. who knows.
I like the way Red staged his return just as Liz finished her training and joined the profile unit

  • Jean Bowlan

They practically said that earlier on in the series. Liz remembered her mother and a man arguing before the house caught fire. The “thing” they all want is the flash drive that’s inside the stuffed animal that Liz drug around all the time. I just think they took away from the show/story if Liz is really dead.

  • denise maguire

I remember that. I think her mom is still alive personally. Remember the episode where Red went to a house in recent years? I think that was her mom
