The Real O'Neals' Noah Galvin Gets Candid About Gay Community, Criticizes Colton Haynes' Coming Out

Noah Galvin is getting a mixed response over a super candid new interview.

The 22-year-old Real O’Neals star opened up to Vulture about his experience as a gay man playing a gay character on television. Here’s what he had to share:

On closeted gay men in Hollywood: “There was a kid who guested on our show. He was flirting with me so blatantly, to the point where he asked me out a few times. At one point I turned to him and was like, Are you gay? And he was like, Well … I don’t know. I’m more like, go with the flow. And I was like, Shut the f-ck up. Get out of my face with your wishy-washy bullshit answer. You’re a fucking f–ot. Like, I know you are. You know you are. Stop beating around the bush. Just go make out with me in my dressing room.”

On the portrayal of gays on screen: “Are you trying to get me to throw somebody under the bus right now? Because I’ve thrown Eric Stonestreet under the bus a solid seven times this week. No, I think as wonderful of an actor as Eric Stonestreet is — I’ve never met him, I assume he’s a wonderful guy — he’s playing a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype on Modern Family. And he’s a straight man in real life. And as hilarious as that character is, there’s a lack of authenticity. I think people — especially young gay kids — they can laugh at it, and they can see it as a source of comedy, but like, nothing more than that. And I want Kenny to be more than the funny gay kid.”

On Colton Haynes coming out: “The worst…But you know he talked about coming out. He didn’t actually say he was gay. That’s not coming out. That’s f-cking p-ssy bullshit. That’s like, enough people assume that I sleep with men, so I’m just going to slightly confirm the fact that I’ve sucked a dick or two. That’s not doing anything for the little gays but giving them more masturbation material.”

wow, a-hole. you don’t get to tell other people their sexuality or how to come out. it can be terrifying to do that, and having somene like this guy criticize or decry it isn’t helping anyone. it sounds like to him you’re gay or straight, as though the ‘wishy-washy’ guy couldn’t be bi or pan or anything. he’s entitled to his opinion, sure, but who made him the be all and end all of coming out or sexuality? everyone has their own path to travel, but seemingly that isn’t good enough for him. meh

  • Carmex

I have never heard of him? But, ehm, too harsh. But at some degree I agree: Either come out as a gay to the world, and not just play around with the openly gay men who had the “courage” to actually come out. You’re not straight if you go to bed with more men than with women.

  • Casey C

but he doesn’t say the ‘kid’ (which is hilarious coming from a fricking 22 year old) claimed he was straight. he said ‘go with the flow’ and that he ‘didn’t know’.. that could have meant bi or pan or anything or simply that the guy really didn’t know, that he was learning and exploring what himself nad his sexuality, hardly a crime. for all we know he was a teenager and genuinely just didn’t know what works for him yet. but all this guy sounds like is he wanted to get off and didn’t give a crap. nobody owes ‘the world’ anything about their sexuality. they can come out or not. they don’t have to if they don’t want to and for some people its hard as hell,.

  • MIT SCIENCE EXPLORATION LABS

Any “gay” guy that tries to come to America or other Britshit guy that tries to get born and raised in America will always be cataloged and executed as per the ways of America against the alien unwelcome and uninvited. Everyone knows this, JJ. Even YOU!!

  • Carmex

I know, I know. I am a homosexual myself, but it is so, I can’t describe it in any other way; that it’s super annoying when men that hook up more often with other gays to test the waters. We have feelings, too, and not just some test objects for the men who are uncertain about their own sexual attractions. And yes; I know nobody owes it to the world to come out, but at some point everyone that who has come to the terms with being and loving who they are, will eventually want to come out to the world, even if you have work in Hollywood or not.

  • Lawrence Rainbow

First impression, this kid is a asshole. lol.

  • Anna

What a douchebag. Come off it. People deal with it differently and some people are more private than others regardless if you’re straight or not. Whether that’s talking about relationships, family, or about yourself, people are different and some aren’t open to talking about their personal life as others. Also, how was the guy’s answer not valid? He blatantly flirted with you and asked you out, it’s not like he was hiding it. Maybe he was bi? Maybe he was just figuring it out his sexuality? Why does he need to put a direct label on it? Some people would rather show their attraction than directly label it. Fuck off. What a douche. Never heard of this man and I hope I never continue to.

  • Casey C

but why does it have to be ‘the world’? I’m sure Colton’s family or friends knew, same with other people. my friends and much of my family know i’m bi but other members don’t for my own safety. i don’t have to go out and tell ‘the world’. nobody has to take out a freaking billboard to tell ‘the world’ and nobody, even famous people, have to have interviews in which they state explicitly that they’re gay as though their sexuality is the most important thing about them. I feel you’re being very generalising that the only reason someone wouldn’t tell ‘the world’ would be that they’re not ‘loving’ who they are. that is essentially BS in my opinion. some people may be extremely comfortable in their sexuality but it’s unsafe to come out, it may be illegal for them in their country, it may be against their religion. but apparently they should come out to ‘the world’ regardless or be seen as not comfortable with themselves or unloving to themselves. I see where you’re coming from and I sympathise with feeling like people testing the waters, I do understand that, but some of what you’re saying feels very judgemental towards people that might struggle a great deal with coming out or not coming out

  • skye3245

Thats harsh as a gay person to judge someone else coming out or finding themselves process. You have the right to turn them down and say “just let me be”. But to go on a rampage and literally say things that cone off as pompous because you feel you should. I’m a 30 year old gay man and I can say he has a lot of growing up to do if these words are whats in that article. Because they show a lack of maturity and understanding. Not everyones coming out is the same. Not everyone has the best process. Mine was awesome my friends and family had my back. Yet i know people who were shunned and ostracized. He really needs to grow up.

Wow! Noah Galvin is such a cunt. How disappointing. He shouldn’t be criticizing Colton Haynes at all.

  • MollyBD

He doesn’t sound very smart. More like a douche bag.

  • Carmex

You’re so reading into my answers wrong. Yes, of course, people love themselves irregardles of coming out or not. That’s not what I am saying. But it can help A LOT of people that for example watch Colton Hayne’s TV show to come out to the world to make them help feel more accapted and that it’s not wrong to come out as a homosexual or bisexual. Or whatever your orientation is. Maybe some day, not in the nearest future it seems; that nobody has to come out as anything. Maybe someday it won’t be news when an actor or actress tell the world.about their orientation. And yes; people have to come out whenever they want to come out and no they don’t NEED to come out, but it certainly will help a lot of people.

  • LindSAY

He’s a POS. He most likely pressured that “boy” into having sex with him, and he brags about it and thinks this is pro LGBT ? WTF. I hate his face. Its a good thing his show got axed. Show like that are what promote stereotypes
What he said about Haynes was outragerous. That ugly face stereotype need to go the f away and to never open his nasty mouth again. I want to go on his twitter and spill mad hate but I was raise better than that.
I’m never watching any shows/movies with that douche face on.
I’m not even with this LGBT mouvement but this got me mad !

  • Fah Q

Who is this little pr!ck? A struggling comedian or something? How can someone actually publicly talk like this and take themselves seriously? “You’re a f****ing fa***ot. Like, I know you are”. He’s those types of insane judgemental douchebags who need a good punch in the face every once in a while.

  • lep106317

His show got renewed for a new season. It wasn’t axed.

    lol this is funny

  • Chrissy

The problem was that Colton was out before he went back into the closet once he got on Teen Wolf.

  • Chrissy

    Good for him.

  • LindSAY

    Damn. This is so BAD.
I won’t be watching anyway, its all the same.

  • Irishluv

Damn… And I was really into this kid. Those were some bitter comments that he will eventually regret. Everyone is different. We all need to be kind not evil in our community

  • skye3245

I don’t think he went back in. He just didn’t discuss it. I was a fan well before teen wolf. Back when he was doing just modeling and then random guest spots. He was out in his public life cause I knew for years. He honestly had no need to say a word like I said it’s his business. If someone outside of his friends or family felt he went back “in the closet” that’s you and your issue. (Not saying you just ppl). Being gay it’s huge among gay youth to think everyone should just scream hey I’m gay. I come from a generation at just 32 that had to deal with being kicked out or killed. We even see this week where Jeremy Jordan’s cousin was sent to pray away camp. This young man and anyone else who thinks they can push other ppl into their notion of self worth is rude and Inhumane. Ppl have to find their own way to except themselves. Yes everyone knows that Colton had relationships and those things. He stated that because of the high profile work he was asked to keep a low profile. Just because your out doesn’t mean your going to go everywhere and scream “I’m gay”. If that’s what ppl think it is then your poorly mistaken. It’s about leaving in your truth. Again this young man is wrong and should speak about his coming out no one else’s. Ppl have to find their way and their process. Point blank. So unless this was taken out of context. Plus screaming the F word at someone is another place I have issues. Just as bad as the N word. I don’t know what’s wrong with someone even 10 years younger then me, he has a lot of growing up to do

  • j k

    Who is this guy lol

  • skye3245

I get you and I feel yes it’s good to have examples. Buts it’s not this young mans, colton’s, Jesse Ferguson, Zach Quinto or anyone else to “help” others. Yes they are public figures and can set a great example but they are also ppl and that’s where we as gay ppl lose ourselves. When you come out its about you coming out not about the community. The community isn’t going to fix your broken family when they diss you. The community won’t feed you when your hungry when your abandoned. We need to let ppl have their time to be open with themselves. Then when they are ready and able the. They can choose to be examples. But their first obligation is to themselves. Not to me, you, or anyone else. Not picking on you just saying sorry

  • FrenchGirl

I have an issue with other gay people telling other gay people how they should or shouldn’t behave or how someone chooses when to come out.

  • Tonja Mason

What an evil little boy. Colton’s not just a gay man, he’s also a beautiful soul who does a lot for others and promotes various causes. He would never be wantonly cruel like this to anyone, or be a bitch to someone who asked him out. This villain is so ugly inside, it colors his entire person and makes him ugly outside as well.

  • Tonja Mason

It’s also rather annoying when gay men hook up to see if they’re straight. It cuts both ways. People don’t know until they experience it.

  • Carmex

I can’t speak on behalf of the other homosexual men, but I never go and start to hit on guys I do not know if are gay or not. That’s just rude.

  • fromanotherplanet

What a messy queen LOL I live for this mess. I am here for it. ALL OF IT.

    THE SHADE

  • Gina

It’s ironic that he talks about not liking when people perpetuate gay stereotypes, and yet here he is perpetuating the stereotype of a bitchy gay guy.

Also, I’m not sure what he found wrong with the way Colton Hayes came out. I really don’t think Colton was vague at all. Granted, Colton was more confirming what people already knew as opposed to making a grand declarative coming out statement. But to each his own.
