Angelina Jolie Set To Star In 'Murder on the Orient Express' Remake?

Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in a remake of Murder on the Orient Express!

The 40-year-old actress and activist would play Mrs. Harriet Hubbard, a role once played by Lauren Bacall, in Kenneth Branagh’s mystery ensemble, THR confirms.

The Fox film is based on Agatha Christie’s classic mystery that has been in the works for years (the deal to secure the rights with the Christie estate was seven years in the making). The story centers on special detective Hercule Poirot, who boards a train from Jerusalem to Europe only to have a murder committed in the car next to his during a snowstorm. Poirot tries to discover the murderer or murderers before there’s another victim.

Shooting is expected to begin in November in London and then move to Malta!

First? This is great news – would love to see her onscreen again. Though every thing seems tentative for now. We don’t even know when WWZ2 will start shooting lol..

  • Felinelilly

It’ll be great if this is true. I hope they’ll have a good Hercule Poirot though. I thought the actor portraying him in the 80s movies (can’t remember his name) was so bad.

  • wika

Hi fe- do you know how big a role Harriet Hubbard is? Wondering if it’s a short or long shoot for her (coughs if i’ll get to admire her longer onscreen really LOL)

  • Felinelilly

I’d love to help you but I don’t remember the specific role in the story. lol I know the name but don’t remember the character specifically. But I know the plot so yes I think it’s a significant role but since it’s an ensemble role, it’s probably a shorter shoot.
This is making me want to re-read the book.

  • Lily

I think they will make it this year. well Brad and Angie always coordinate their schedules.

  • wika

Thanks, it’s alright. I guess I’ll just count my blessings and be thankful she’s onscreen, at least. LOL! Hope it’s a bigger role than Brad’s TBS role. That took only 2 weeks, didn’t it.

  • bap

The great British actor Albert Finney played Poirot 1974 version.

  • Felinelilly

You guys have better memories and knowledge about Brad and Angie’s filming schedules. LOL Honestly I don’t even remember how long TBS took for Brad to film. Like you I’m just happy when they’re on screen.

  • Felinelilly

He may have been a great actor, I’m not saying he wasn’t, I just didn’t like his Poirot at all.

  • bap

He did a great job as Winston Church Hill in the Gathering Storm with Vanessa Redgrave.

  • wika

Yeah, now that Brad’s acting schedule is cleared after WWZ 2, seems that Angelina’s taking over the acting role. Guess that means she won’t need to shop her husband’s money away LOL!

  • Passing Through

Whattaya know…Baz Bambigoye at the Daily Fail got something right. I will say that at least he does know Angie and Brad. I remember when he sucked up to them one year at Cannes…maybe the IB premiere. He was actually allowed in the after party…

  • Jo

Hopefully this is true, I really want to see her acting again.

  • GroundControl500

Branagh is directing himself as Poirot.

  • bap

Ingrid Bergman won an supporting Oscar for her role in the movie.

  • ali7

Lol imagine if this is true Dailyfail beat all the trades for this, as the trades always fight each other for the first to break movies news

  • Saffron

    Peter Ustinov also played Poirot.

  • GroundControl500

He was very good in that wasn’t he.

  • bap

    Correct, Peter was better.

  • Felinelilly

Ah! Thanks for the info GC, I didn’t have time to go through the articles earlier.

  • Passing Through

OMG. Why does THR keep saying Angie is repped by Media Talent Group? She very plainly told them in 2014 that she no longer works with Geyer. Are they saying she re-hired him? Cuz…somehow I doubt it…

PS – The people of Malta are thinking about renaming the island “Jolie-PittLand.”

PPS – I’m guessing this means that Brad’s not doing WWZ2 this year and Par’s going to move the date…unless it starts by late-Julyearly-August…which it probably won’t…

  • bap

I watched it over 5 times.

  • wika

If it’s a short shoot, I can see Brad doing WWZ2. Since it’s in London too. I think someone mentioned, kind of like Maleficent and The Counsellor.

Edit: GC explained to me about the nature of the movie and I guess it seems that it might be a long shoot after all.

  • Felinelilly

THAT’s who I meant, thank you! He was so bad. So maybe Albert Finney was better. I thought Peter Ustinov and the movies were over the top and too “Hollywood”. It’s just my opinion though. Maybe because I love the PBS series so much and David Suchet, who I thought was so great in the role.

  • sandra

Well it seems the movie moved forward after the news that Angie is in talks Mojo has a release date. If true that is a big win for Fox. They got the draw. Now let`s just wait and if true this will be another smash hit. I wonder why they didnt went with Charlene or Blunt or TickyF or Roberts? I know all of them together weren’t able to do even 80 millions in 2 movies :)

  • bap

Have you seen the Dresser on Stars With Anthony Hopkins?

  • Go Figure!

I taped this but haven’t watched as of yet.

  • GroundControl500

How she won that Oscar is beyond me. She was probably the least deserving that year. I thought her performance was too campy and forced. Even Bergman herself seemed to be embarrassed by the win though she was very gracious in her acceptance. I think by then it was her 3d Oscar. It was pretty universally accepted that Valentina Cortese should have won for Truffault’s Day for Night.

  • bap

Albert Finney was in the original.

  • bap

I saw it. let me know what you think.

  • gennline

If she is doing it, it will be because Ken Branagh wants to work with her and Angie him.Or possibility for Ridley Scott.
I don’t see her doing it for anyone other reason.
I wish she would write something for her and Helen Bonham-Carter to do.I hope they have met.
    Something naughty and outrageous.

  • bap

    I agree with you!

  • bap

    That would be great!

  • GroundControl500

No but I saw the original back some 30 years ago with Finney – on screen, not as my date. 😊 I think that film deserves a rewatch. Thanks for bringing it up.

  • bap

Ian Mckellan plays the Dresser in the up to date version Anthony plays the Actor

  • GroundControl500

I’m pretty sure I watched Gathering Storm on Youtube and I know I’ve watched it at least twice. Churchill is endlessly fascinating – at almost every stage of his life.

  • bap

    Absolutely!

  • GroundControl500

The difference with this ensemble piece is that all the actors – well almost all – are in it throughout the film and there are quite a few scenes where they’re all together. It is shot on the confined location of one train after all.

I suppose they could shoot out of order but not sure how Branagh likes to film.

  • changeling

Kenneth Branagh is both the director and actor playing Poirot in this remake.

  • bap

He was good as Henry V.

  • bap

He was good as Henry V.

  • William Bradley & The Jolie

    Whaaaaat?

Are we thinking the Daily Fail got something right?

Do I need to get my prayer on? Cause the end times must be here.

Kidding aside (I think) I wonder if Brad is doing WWZ2 soon, maybe explains the quick weight drop?

They don’t have babies now. It wouldn’t surprise me if Brad starts this Summer, and he finishes just as she starts, with a slight overlap.

Her shoots takes them into beginning of next year.

And perhaps by then, the other things she has in production will be ready to roll?

  • GroundControl500

And Ian is also wonderful in it. Both were Oscar nominated.
Unlike Ian in the awful TV show Vicious my PBS station is inexplicably reshowing now. Except for the occasional laugh it is such a screechy, bad show that I can’t believe either Ian or Derek agreed to it.

  • Lily

Actually Brad did two movies during Maleficent shooting. The Counselor and 12 Years A Slave

  • Felinelilly

    Thanks changeling!

  • sandra

Someone posted in IMDB that the role she is supposed to play is the most important role after Poirot and that is the key character among the passengers/suspects. I never read the book or saw the movie so I don’t know if that’s true. Probably not a litle role.

  • Felinelilly

You guys are encyclopedias when it comes to remembering all the business side of Brad and Angie and their filming schedules. It’s impressive. I have a fairly good memory but I can never remember all the details some of you guys know.

  • ali7

Is Lauren Baccal role & I don’t know how big it’s as well & her character will be a wealthy American travailing

  • AWHODAT

The dailyFAIL gets nothing right. Dont ever forget that.

The dailyFAIL is merely a copycat. A parrot. It trolls the internet for entertainment and other crowd-pulling/sensationalistic ‘news’ and then post threads as if they originate anything. They dont originate anything.

Just rmbr that ANYONE with internet access and the ability to build a website can do what the dailyFAIL fails at so spectacularly.

  • wika

LOL poor old hens are going to be so upset when they see her known as Angelina Jolie PITT next week doing the BBC guest editing. Guess they didn’t bother to check that most of the trades are as lazy as their asses and didn’t bother to pick up the Pitt at all – not even with BTS.
