Alfonso Cuarón Tells 'Fallon' He Kept 'Roma's Script a Secret from Cast & Crew During Filming

Alfonso Cuaron made a special appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (January 8) and dished all about his critically acclaimed film Roma, which earned him a 2019 Golden Globe for Best Director over the weekend.

The 57-year-old Oscar-winning writer-director opened up about how the memories of a woman who raised him inspired the film, and how his reluctant lead, Yalitza Aparicio, had to Google him before accepting the role.

Alfonso also revealed that the cast and crew were unaware of the full script while filming: “The crew went crazy. They didn’t have the script, nobody had the script,” Alfonso expressed. “I wrote a very precise script, but nobody had it. We shot the script in chronological order so they were learning day by day the script and what the story was about.”

Roma is playing in select theaters now and is also available for streaming on Netflix!
