Cristiano Ronaldo Dethrones Selena Gomez as Most-Followed Person on Instagram

It looks like Cristiano Ronaldo is now the most followed person on Instagram. Selena Gomez held the title of most-followed on Instagram for over two years.

It looks like the 33-year-old soccer star has 144 million followers on the social media site. While Selena, 25, also has 144 million followers, the breakdown goes a little bit more in depth.

At the time of this publication, it looks like Cristiano has 144,332,498 followers, while Selena has 144,318,439. The numbers change almost constantly, so these will be different shortly. But for now, it looks like Cristiano is in the lead with Selena coming in just behind at number two.

Selena may not mind the title-change, as she is currently taking a break from social media after reportedly seeking treatment at a mental health facility.

Cristiano Ronald Denies Rape Allegation in New Statement

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a statement denying a rape allegation against him.

The allegation dates back to 2009, and a woman named Kathryn Mayorga is suing the 33-year-old athlete for the alleged incident that she says occurred in Las Vegas.

Kathryn says she reported the incident to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department but didn’t name Cristiano for fear of retaliation, TMZ reports.

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,” Cristiano said in a tweet posted Wednesday (October 3). Read more below. This is the second statement Cristiano has made about the allegation.

Cristiano Ronaldo Responds to Rape Allegation (Report)

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo is defending himself against allegations of rape.

Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine published a report naming woman who allegedly came to a $375,000 settlement back in 2010 with Ronaldo and agreed to keep silent.

Ronaldo‘s lawyer told the BBC, “The reporting in Spiegel is blatantly illegal,” and added that the publication published “probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.”

In addition, Cristiano allegedly spoke out about the allegations in a now unavailable video from Instagram live.

“No no no. They want to promote [themselves] by [using] my name. It’s normal,” Cristiano allegedly said about the allegations (you can see a clip from the video here).
