Nicki Minaj's Brother Jelani Maraj Sentenced to 25 Years to Life in Prison After Sexually Assaulting a Child

Nicki Minaj‘s brother Jelani Maraj has received a prison sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Over two years after he was convicted for child rape, the 40-year-old was back in a Long Island courtroom on Monday (January 27) where he received his sentence from State Supreme Court Justice Robert McDonald, People reports.

At a minimum, Jelani will serve at least 25 years for his crimes.

Back in 2017, Jelani was found guilty of predatory sexual assault on a child younger than 13 years old and endangering the welfare of a child. He was first arrested in December 2015.

Prosecutors presented evidence during the trail showing that Jelani started abusing the victim when she was 11, and raped her repeatedly between April and November 2015 while her mother was working.

The victim testified that Jelani called her “his puppet” and said that if she refused his advances, he would physically attack her.

Nicki Minaj has never commented publicly on her brother’s case.

Nicki Minaj's Brother Jelani Maraj Convicted of Sexually Assaulting a Child

Nicki Minaj‘s older brother Jelani Maraj has been convicted of sexually assaulting a minor who was younger than 13-years-old at the time of the assault.

The 38-year-old was found guilty on Thursday (November 9) during a trial in Nassau County, N.Y. He faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced.

Maraj‘s lawyers used an argument that the case was an attempt to extort millions of dollars from his sister.

“Justice demanded that this defendant be held accountable for these heinous acts and we are thankful to the jury for their careful deliberation,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a statement to People. “We hope that today’s verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this terrible chapter in their lives.”

Nicki has not commented on the charges against her brother.
