Kelly Ripa Mourns Death of 'All My Children' Co-Star John Callahan: 'We Are Just So Sad & So Devastated'

Kelly Ripa is remembering her late co-star John Callahan.

On Monday’s episode of Live! with Kelly and Ryan, the 49-year-old host mourned the death of her 66-year-old All My Children co-star after he passed away over the weekend from a “massive stroke.”

“I had a really a bad weekend this weekend,” Kelly shared. “A very dear friend of mine for many, many years, almost 30 years, passed away over the weekend. He was a great actor, a really good friend. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He was the ex-husband of my first-born son’s godmother, Eva LaRue. His name was John Callahan. He was 66 years old—way too young to be taken from us.”

Kelly then went on to say that John‘s ex-wife Eva LaRue and daughter Kaya are in her family’s thoughts and prayers.

“A gentleman of, I mean, Ryan [Seacrest], you two would have loved each other. He would say the funniest things and we were all going through our brains about all of the funny, like the funny Callahan-isms over the years. He was just one of these guys and you know and he just died way too soon,” Kelly continued. “His daughter and my daughter are good friends, they’re the same age and I just want everyone to know, Eva and Kaya, that we are thinking of you and we are just so sad and so devastated. So, I apologize in advance if I seem out of it. I really actually am, I’m terribly out of it. You know, forgive me for it.”

John Callahan Dead - 'All My Children' Actor Dies at 66

Soap opera actor John Callahan has passed away at the age of 66.

John was best known for playing Edmund Grey on the soap opera All My Children from 1992 to 2005. He married his on-screen love interest Eva LaRue in 1996 and they got divorced in 2004. The former couple are parents to an 18-year-old daughter named Kaya.

A rep for John told TMZ that he suffered a “massive stroke” at his home in Palm Desert, Calif. and his death was not related to the current health crisis.

Eva announced John‘s death on her Instagram account.

“May flights of Angels Wing you to your rest my dear friend,” Eva wrote in her post. “Your bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. We are devastated — my great friend, co-parent partner, and loving father to Kaya. That big belly laugh, bear hugs, bad puns, ability to harmonize and to song, great kitchen table singing-fests, and two stepping bad ass!”

Eva added, “Kaya and I are beyond broken hearted, so stunned, sorry that my thoughts are a mess. You gave the best most beautifully written tributes, and I am at a complete loss for words right now for you. I hope Heaven has baseball and that your team always wins! The Yankees has just lost their biggest Fan.”

We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to all of John‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
