'Rick & Morty' Co-Creator Justin Roiland Cleared of Domestic Violence Charges, Speaks Out in New Statement

The domestic violence charges against Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland have been dropped and he is speaking out in a new statement.

Justin was dropped by Adult Swim back in January, around two weeks after the felony charges went public. He was accused of domestic violence by an ex-girlfriend and was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit. He pleaded not guilty.

Orange County District Attorney’s office spokeswoman Kimberly Edds said in a statement on Wednesday (March 22): “We dismissed the charges today as a result of having insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Now, Justin is speaking out.

'Rick & Morty' Co-Creator Justin Roiland Dropped from Show Amid Felony Charges

Justin Roiland will no longer be involved with Rick and Morty, a show that he co-created.

The 42-year-old animator, writer, and voice actor has been dropped by Adult Swim, nearly two weeks after news went public that he is facing felony charges.

“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” Adult Swim/Cartoon Network/Boomerang svp communications Mairie Moore told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.

The show will continue and Justin‘s voice roles, including both Rick and Morty, will be re-cast.

Justin was arrested back in August 2020 and is currently awaiting trial.

‘Rick and Morty’ Co-Creator Justin Roiland Charged With Domestic Violence

Justin Roiland, co-creator of the animated series Rick and Morty is awaiting trial on charges of felony domestic violence against a former girlfriend.

The 42-year-old actor and producer was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit. He has pleaded not guilty.

J. Michael Mendel Dead - 'Simpsons' & 'Rick & Morty' Producer Dies at 54

J. Michael Mendel has sadly passed away at age 54.

The Simpsons and Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty producer was a four-time Emmy winner.

“All of us at Adult Swim are devastated by the untimely passing of Mike Mendel,” said a spokesperson for Adult Swim in a statement. “Mike was the heart of the Rick and Morty production family, his fantastic talent and wit will be sorely missed. Mike was a universally respected Emmy-winning producer with over 25 years in the industry, who guided and supported a generation of artists, writers and creators and his absence will be felt by the entire community. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland added on Twitter, “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you by my side Mike. I’m destroyed.”

Mike also worked with James L. Brooks on Broadcast News, Big, and Jerry Maguire.

Mike is survived by his wife, fellow Emmy winner and casting director Juel Bestrop.
