Gladiator is one of Russell Crowe‘s biggest movies and most recognizable roles. However, he recently revealed that he had some hesitations about the part.
The 59-year-old actor’s work in the movie won him a Best Actor Oscar in 2001. The movie was so successful that it’s getting a sequel more than two decades later that will star Paul Mescal.
Despite the overwhelming success, Russell opened up about his movie’s script in a recent conversation with Vanity Fair. More specifically, he called it “rubbish” and explained what was wrong with it.
He also reflected on Joaquim Phoenix‘s role in the movie, revealing what made him nervous about it.
