Meghan Markle Honors the Legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg - Read Her Statement

Meghan Markle is paying tribute to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after she lost her battle to cancer.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke out in a statement that was released on Saturday (September 19).

“With an incomparable and indelible legacy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg will forever be known as a woman of brilliance, a Justice of courage, and a human of deep conviction,” Meghan said. “She has been a true inspiration to me since I was a girl. Honor her, remember her, act for her.”

Ginsburg was the second woman, and first Jewish woman, to be elected to the Supreme Court of the United States and she was known for championing women’s rights throughout her career.

Felicity Jones played Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the 2018 movie On the Basis of Sex and now she’s paying tribute to the late Supreme Court Justice after her death.

The Oscar-nominated actress mourned the loss of the icon in a statement that was released on Saturday (September 19).

Ruth Bader Ginsburg gave us hope, a public figure who stood for integrity and justice – a responsibility she did not wear lightly,” Felicity said (via People). “She will be missed not only as a beacon of light in these difficult times but for her razor-sharp wit and extraordinary humanity. She taught us all so much. I will miss her deeply.”

In an interview with Yahoo ahead of the film’s release in 2018, Felicity opened up about why Ruth was a superhero.

“I feel that she’s a pioneer,” she said. “She’s someone who has pushed back against injustice. And someone who definitely understood injustice because she’d gone through it herself and then harnessed the anger that she felt in an incredibly productive way and gives us hope that change can happen.”

Joe Biden Calls Ruth Bader Ginsburg A 'Fierce & Unflinching' Giant in Her Profession

Joe Biden has released a statement following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The long-running justice passed away today, September 18, at the age of 87, due to complications from pancreatic cancer, her family announced.

Mr. Biden, who was on the campaign trail, arrived at New Castle County Airport in Duluth, Minnesota and gave a statement to press there.

“[She was] not only a giant in her own profession, but a beloved figure, and my heart goes out to all those who cared for her and cared about her,” he shared. “She practiced the highest American ideals as a justice — equality and justice under the law. Ruth Bader Ginsburg stood for the law. As a young attorney, she persisted, overcoming a lot of obstacles for a woman practicing law in those days … she continued until she moved herself into a position where she could end up changing the law of the land.”

Mr. Biden continued, “It’s hard to believe that it was my honor to preside over her confirmation hearing … She never failed, she was fierce and unflinching in her pursuit of civil and legal right and civil rights of everyone.”

He also spoke of what’s ahead with appointing the next Supreme Court Justice.

“Tonight and in the coming days we should focus on the loss of the justice and her enduring legacy,” he said. “This was the position the Republican Senate took in 2016 when there were almost 10 months to go before the election. That’s the position the United States Senate must take today, and the election’s only 46 days off.”

“I think the fastest justice ever confirmed was 47 days, and the average is closer to 70 days, and so we should do this with full consideration, and that is my hope and expectation of what will happen.”

Mitch McConnell Says Trump's Supreme Court Nominee Will Get a Vote in the Senate, Despite His Own Precedent

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, says that he will hold a vote on President Trump‘s nominee to fill the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg‘s seat on the Supreme Court.

Back in March 2016, McConnell blocked the senate from holding a vote for Merrick Garland, who was nominated to the supreme court by Obama.

McConnell said back then that a Supreme Court seat should not be filled in an election year, but now he is only saying it shouldn’t be filled during an election year if the presidency and senate are controlled by different parties.

In a statement he released just minutes after Ginsburg‘s death was announced, McConnell said, “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”

New York’s democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, who is the Senate Minority Leader, opposes the vote.

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president,” he tweeted.

Ginsburg‘s dying wish was revealed after her death and it involves to vote to replace her.

This is an election year for McConnell as well and in 45 days, he could be voted out of office.

The Supreme Court Justice died at the age of 87, which means her seat is now vacant and the liberals have lost a vote on the court.

The upcoming presidential election will be more important than ever as whoever is elected will be the one who decides who replaces RBG, assuming Trump doesn’t make the unprecedented move of trying to rush a nomination process in the next six weeks.

While justifying the treatment of Merrick Garland in 2016, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham previously said, “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.”

Republican senators Mitt Romney and Lisa Murkowski have reportedly both said they will not agree to voting for a new justice before the election.

“My God bless and keep RBG,” Julia wrote in a short reaction on Twitter.

Josh added, “Speechless. Bless her family and bless this country. Tonight is going to be tough for millions of Americans who were but one Justice away from having all of their rights stripped away from them. This is devastating.”

Hailee also echoed Josh‘s statement, writing “speechless” with a sad face emoji.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Died at 87, Granddaughter Reveals Her Final Wish

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court Justice who was a champion of gender equality, has sadly passed away at the age of 87.

The Supreme Court announced that Ginsburg died due to complications from pancreatic cancer, according to NPR.

RBG‘s granddaughter Clara Spera says that she dictated this statement just days before her death: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Ginsburg served on the Supreme Court for the past 27 years. She knew that the winner of the 2020 presidential election will be the person to decide her replacement on the Supreme Court and she wants to make sure Trump does not try nominating someone in the next seven weeks leading up to the election.

With Ginsburg‘s death, Chief Justice John Roberts is no longer the controlling vote in closely contested cases decided by the Supreme Court and there is no longer a clear majority for outcomes.

RBG‘s legal fight for women’s rights in the 1970s was the basis of the 2018 movie On the Basis of Sex, starring Felicity Jones.
