Ibtihaj Muhammad Wins Bronze in Fencing at Rio Olympics!

Ibtihaj Muhammad won her first Olympic medal on Saturday (August 13) in Rio de Janeiro!

The 30-year-old fencer took the bronze medal for the United States during the team saber competition. Ibtihaj competed with Dagmara Wozniak, Mariel Zagunis, and Monica Aksamit on the U.S. team and beat the Italian team 45-30 in the bronze medal match.

Earlier that day, Ibtihaj and her teammates defeated the Russian team in order to qualify for the bronze medal match.

Ibtihaj is the first U.S. athlete to compete in the Olympics wearing a hijab.

The last time the women’s fencing team won a medal was at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
